Why I’m Going Skydiving.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane… no, it’s Davey Wavey!

In just over 24-hours, Haley Star and I will be jumping out of a small aircraft at 10,000 feet. With any luck, the parachute will deploy and my underwear will remain dry. Regardless of the outcome, all of it will be filmed for your viewing pleasure.

When Haley Star brought up the idea of skydiving, I said, “Yes!” without hesitation. It’s not because I want to skydive; I don’t. And it’s not because the idea doesn’t scare me; I’m terrified. I’m going skydiving because if we’re not growing, we’re dying.

All the things that we’re afraid to do create limitations on what we can become.

For me, skydiving is breaking free from the Alcatraz of fears that imprison us. While staying in the prison can be safe and comfortable, where’s the sense of adventure? Where’s the freedom? And where’s the personal growth that only happens when we push beyond our boundaries?

Being recently single, I can’t help but think that my dive from 10,000 feet is also a symbolic gesture. It’s a commitment to evolve and release my fears as I move into this new chapter of my life.

That’s why I’m jumping.

  1. You are terrifying me with this new project. Please reconsider. I will certainly be praying for you – even if you are doing this ridiculous thing.

  2. Good for you, Davey! This is the perfect stage of your life for such an adventure. And you are right: fear of failure is what keeps so many people from realizing their full potential.

  3. Hi Davey,

The next sound we will hear is SPLAT. Sorry just kidding. Have fun. I did the same sort of things on my stay-cation – parasailing, zip lines, and bungee jumping. I don’t regret it. It was fun. I think you will feel the same way after jumping.

  4. Go for it Davey. You’re gonna love it.

I’ve done it and it’s such a totally liberating rush that you will never forget the feeling. It could even become your next passionate hobby… skydiving in every state and country that you visit.

I have a friend who has never flown to another destination, but he has skydived many times. The unique story he likes to tell is that he has taken off in an airplane 15 times, but he has never landed in one.

Skydiving can also be another great metaphor for breaking free from the prisons that we create for ourselves with our religious, political, cultural and social belief systems. Taking that leap of faith over the prison walls of our beliefs and into the reality of the world outside of those beliefs can be scary and uncomfortable, but so totally worth the risk.

At some point in our lives, we ALL must take that leap of faith, because once we are free from the rigid dogma of our beliefs, we can open our hearts, minds and eyes to the wonders of the world around us, and begin to experience the infinite love, beauty, diversity and oneness of all humanity and LIFE Itself. That is, after all, one of the cornerstones of the foundation upon which we build our evolving consciousness and our understanding of self and others.

Have fun on your jump and try not to get too many bugs in your teeth, cuz you’ll be smiling all the way down.

    Peace, Love and Truth,

    Todd in VA

  5. Hi Davey!

Im sure you will enjoy it!
    That’s an amazing feeling.
I’ve jumped out of a plane 3 years ago,
and i would do it again immediately!
I did a two day training,
and on the second day i was allowed to jump out by my own!
I could do my own thing,
but you i needed to do the landing on my own, too.
Sure, i’ve had a headset an a remote instructor guiding me.
    It was great!

    Enjoy it!

If you really want to explore the limit,
    or get another funny idea,
you should do an acrobatic flight!
+6g and -6g and you will feel and know the limits of your body!
    But here is the warning:
You won’t get sick in the air,
the horrible moment is when you get out of the plane
and your senses are telling the brain you are moving
even if your eyes say no movement!

    so, have fun!

  6. Hey Davey…
I just went skydiving in May. I too am scared of heights..etc…I didn’t go because I wanted to skydive. I went to prove to my doctors that my life could still go on nearly uninterrupted even though my broken foot will never heal. It was kinda my chance to say F U!!! to the docs. :) Needless to say, I landed, puked twice, and had one of the happiest days I’ve had in quite a while. It was an accomplishment..a milestone..a day to mark in my life when I turned the corner from feeling bad about not being able to do “normal” things, to feeling empowered about my life to come. Good luck to you Davey. I hope skydiving is as satisfying and life affirming for you as it was for me….. :)
