Listen and try understand. It is true what you said. But the last: ‘he wont even take to acknowledge others. Who cares’ If you think he is your friend or mate, it’s your problem not his. I don’t want to sound rude but it’s shortes and simplest way. And obviously you like him enough to care and again it’s your problem not his isn’t it? Undoubtly he is cute and easy going personality almost forgot handsom enough to not kick out from bed. So what? Think that way: how many real friends he got? i am bi-racial. my mom is white, my dad is black. i grew up in white suburbs and have gone to all white schools all my life. i dont act as though im ghetto, but i still identify as black. im proud to be mixed, but i look black, so does obama. you need to realize in this country “as the old saying goes” if you have have one drop of black in your blood then your black. maybe if you researched a little harder you would know that.

For the people who say that obama doesn’t seem to recognize the LGBT community, if you guys remember in his victory speach, he mentioned that the country is made of many people, he included the Gay community. The inaugural address was made more for the unity of the nation, and the soul to uplift the country out of the hole its in already.

I hope the tone of our diplomacy does take a change. It seems Bush has made everyone mad with our policies. I don’t think we need to cave on our beliefs, but I do hope we can have a dialog with our adversaries, not just war. What is funny is we critize many countries on their stands but look at us??? Nearly bankrupt. Let’s get our house in order before we judge!!

I like your comment on change & challenge. Never heard that before. I guess one could say in order for change to happen you have to face the CHAlleNGE and get the “‘ell” out of there. It is amazing, how much easier change actually is when evil (‘ell) is no longer is peoples hearts. Here’s hoping folks can let go of any evil in their hearts and fill it with peace, harmony, & hope.

The justification, in most people’s opinions, for quotas and ‘affirmative action’ is redress for the unjust practices of the past.

I have a friend who asked me to proof read his sister’s application to a Masters of Health Sciences program at UWO. When I read it I was surprized she had successfully completed grade school. This person had little concept of how to write a complete, cohesive thought. She has many strong suits but language isn’t one of them. And she wanted to specialise in speech/language pathology.

I asked my friend “How did Jill ever graduate from high school let alone her undergrad?” He told me that he and his brother would edit and rewrite her papers so she’d pass. They’ve been doing this ever since she was young because their parents expect them all to do well in the ‘important’ subjects. If she gets into this program she’ll be away from home for the first time and won’t have anyone to do the work for her. Nobody will be accommodating her and she will likely fail miserably.

IMO making concessions for people – making it easier for them – gives them a false sense of what it takes to really compete in the world. There’s an old Jewish saying “If you save a person’s life, they are your responsibility forever.” When my friend told his sister she’d have to edit her own work, recently, she cried to her mother who pleaded with him to do it. So he did. If you lower standards for people to ‘help’ them they will continue to expect and demand special accommodation. You may assist them in the short run but in the end everyone loses.

If we’re going to create real equality it’s going to take a lot more work on the fundamental issues plaguing our society. Focussing on the symptoms just doesn’t work.

Definately, and it’s not just racism either. If they had elected any kind of president (whether they were different because of their skin color, sex, sexual preferences, or religion) that wouldn’t mean that the discrimination towards that group would end. In fact, it might just escalate the feelings that people already have whether they are defending that president or furious that that “type” of president had been elected.

I couldn’t agree more Karl. Thanks for being brave enough to express this often-felt/seldom-expressed feeling. I am for TRUE color-blindness (and many times such a goal IS possible – if that was our TRUE goal). My ancestors were one step above slaves, working in factories, etc. They couldn’t afford to send my parents to college and didn’t have the “right” connections. My parents had to work 3 jobs at times to make the “American dream” come true for their children. Now I’M the bad guy? Sometimes life is unfair – no matter the pigment of one’s skin.

Was MLK’s dream for equality or not? then why is it that as a White male am I discriminated against in order to fulfill quotas? My belief is that all applications should omit any names, races, and religions, and should simply have you place a Soc. Number as identification, and then you be admitted based on your own achievements and Merit, and not skin color. The sad thing is I believe Racism is back on the rise, because more and more of us are feeling like it’s becoming unfair.

I absolutely agree. Whoever thinks that racism is over now is someone who has never been on the receiving end of it or wants to make themselves feel better by believing it’s over. Like many other problems, there’s no one magic solution. People are going to be so quick to judge him for any missteps he may take, ready to take him down and put just another white guy back into office.

Still, it is pretty amazing to see proof that we’re getting closer to it every day.
