While going through my in-box, I came across an email forwarded along by a blog buddy. The email expresses the philosophy of Charlie Schultz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip.
Ponder the following six questions. You don’t need to come up with the actual answers – you’ll get the point:
- Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
- Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
- Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
- Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
- Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
- Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.
How did you do? I couldn’t come up with many of the answers. While all of the above achievements are great, their impacts on our individual lives are generally quite small.
Now, another quiz:
- List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
- Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
- Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
- Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
- Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Much easier, eh? The people who made the greatest impact on your life aren’t necessarily the richest, strongest, most beautiful, brightest or most celebrated. They’re the simply the people that cared the most.
And so it doesn’t matter if you’re not Channing Tatum or Mark Zuckerberg or Babe Ruth; your ability to leave this world with a little more love hasn’t been diminished.

So I bought a $9 yoga mat at Walmart two days ago. Not sure what I’m doing with it yet, but it’s a start. Also seems a bit thin; maybe I can fuse two together or find a thicker one. Hoping to try the #UnderwearYoga that I got free with purchase of your Workout Guide, and progress to some actual yoga classes.

If you look at the 5 wealthiest people in the world and noble prize winners (ignoring the “Peace” prize anyways) you will find that their contributions have a profound impact on our individual lives – better or for worse. Just because you are not aware of something – doesn’t mean that something doesn’t impact you.

sigh. everything has an impact on everything. It’s the metaphor of the butterfly effect. But what you’re supposed to find from this questionnaire is that some of the greatest people anyone will ever only know, are their friends and family. So the world may not know your best friend or your favorite teacher, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t count. Furthermore, the greatest people in this world are and will be molded by a group of people that may never be known by anyone else, but they are more important to these famous people than their own fame.

Davey, I wish more people would just look past the sex in your blogs and really delve for the big picture.
You are amazing, not because of your looks, but because of your heart and your curiosity; your wonder and your amazement by the little things. You’re beautiful because you love, and one who knows love, from every angle and further discovers more angles will always be the greater people in this world.
You could film your videos in the dark and I’d still listen.
