In this great northern hemisphere of planet Earth, today marks the first weekday of Spring. The angle of the sun is such that its rays are just a little bit stronger, and even up here in Canada, the crocus flowers are attesting to a cycle of new life with their amethyst blooms.
The air is especially thick with promise, and amid all of nature’s majesty, it’s quite easy to forget that we live in a world wherein people yell “fagot” at openly gay elected officials, or a public school cancels its prom rather than allow a lesbian couple to attend.
As I look out my window at the glowing sunrise, rich with hues of lavender and tangerine, the hate in today’s headlines stands in stark contrast to the beauty of the natural world.
Just yesterday, I received an e-mail from a young professional in Abu Dhabi that lost his job because he’s gay.
How are such beautiful beings capable of such hateful things? The venom we spew betrays our divine nature.
Of course, the hate that others create is their path and not mine. The only path over which I have control is my own. And with that understanding, my intention on this 22nd day of March is to walk a path of peace, love and compassion. I can only control what I put out into the world, and today I will make a gift of my love.

This is an excellent quote as long as we remember that “evil” is just a label for a perceived value that is used as a form of comparative measure.
That which we call “evil” is actually something (be it behavior, circumstances, events, etc.) that emanates from a point of darkness / ignorance on one end of Life’s spectrum, where there is an absence of Light / Truth.
Peace, Love, and Compassion are the anti-venom for hatred, and should be our continuous gift to a world awash in “evil”.

I agree the world is full of “contrast”, and bias. I don’t think homosexuals have it any worse than any other group in society.
What about the young woman fresh out of university was denied a teaching job in an inner school, not because she was young, or experience but because she was “too white”. Or the teenage boy who would walk to school and a neighbor would always call him “greaseball” because he’s Italian? Or the father of 7 children called a “popeblower” because he was a devout Catholic? Or the openly gay man who gets insults from the extreme left of the homosexual movement because “he’s not gay enough”, “dishonor’s the memory of the stonewall riots” and is harassed by these extremist because he loves his Catholic faith. The little boy who is called by his classmates, “idiot and retard”, because he has autism.
The world is full of hatred, gays themselves also “spew out this venom”. After all its because of sin this happens, and I yet to meet anyone who was free of sin.
All the above has happened to my family or myself. Being called a faggot is not so bad. I am better equip to handle this than my baby brother who suffers with autism. Is being a lesbian couple denied prom any worse than the Italian family denied dinner at a restaurant in Spain because they are Italian? Is the gay public official that is gay called a “faggot” any worse than the gay public official that in 1990 ran a all male whore house of his home and still a member of congress? -Davide

You’ve often alluded to the fact that wherever people are in their lives is the perfect place for them to be at this time; furthermore that they are the sum of their experience in the world. If you understand this I’m not sure how you can’t see how such beautiful beings can say such hateful things. 6.5 billion people with 6.5 different backgrounds and opinions are bound to have disagreements. Yesterday at the mall I heard a woman using every obscenity in the book at another woman who pulled into a parking space first. I was incredulous at this woman who even called the other one a c**t. I had to put myself in her shoes to really see that she probably feels unheard and unseen and is doing whatever she has to to be heard and seen. I would say that, for the most part, people are insulting out of frustration and even self-loathing. The guy yelling ‘faggot’ probably likes himself so little that he thinks he can only feel higher by bringing others down. The religious zealots have no faith that their beliefs can stand on their own so they use force to ensure that others abide by them. These people are beautiful and pathetic too. They deserve our love, compassion and understanding. I believe the only answer to hatred is love; I think you were getting at that. In my opinion it’s best to seek to understand and follow up with love. To show compassion and restraint. That example will change people’s minds.

I love this quote. There is so much negativity that can be contemplated, but I think it is much more productive to focus on the positive. There will always be those who choose to create negativity, hate and pain, but fortunately there will always be those others that know that they can create a positive and better world by their own, sometimes small, actions which will ripple out into the world. We can all go out and make waves of love, peace and compassion.

Some very wise comments on this post. I would add that the chap who lost his job in Abu Dhabi was lucky he was not imprisoned (according to the law). This would suggest that the action was not motivated by hatred but in order to abide with the local culture. Just because a cultural belief system differs from our own it does not mean we should force our cultural belief system onto them! Respect is required.

Wow…I am really pleased to have found your blog. I am a married man with 2 kids well on my way now to finding where it is my soul needs to rest in life. I had my 1st male encounter about 8 months ago after 33 years of repression and ever since then I feel like a caterpillar who is coming out of a cocoon as a butterfly.
For me this was not about an underlying desire to have sex with men, but more a desire to find the truth within myself, with that I have been able to open my heart and I find the universe pouring in.

Once again your words strike a chord within my very being. I too desire that path of peace and it is a path that we all should seek with a humble a earnest heart.
Living in the Southern Hemisphere in Sydney we too experince the voice of intolerance and utter hate. Gone are the days when I would suffer in cowering silence, afraid to be honest with myself. Now I engage the legions of hate, never again will I stand by and allow a gay brother or sister be made to feel less than human. In a non violent manner I engage with them in honest rational conversation; usually they become so enraged that they lose the ability the speak, they yell and curse and attempt to justifiy their irrational stance.
Autum as had a warm start this month, temps have been in high 20′s to mid 30′s;soon the weather will change and along with that so will our endless restlessness. Autum is a time to prepare for winter; a time to contemplate upon the endless cycle of life. A time to once again make an honest start to walking along that precious path of peace.
