With all this talk of present moment awareness, it may seem a bit strange to look back at 2008. But I think it’s important to honor and love the past for what it is: a great learning experience. 2008 was no exception. Here are some of the things I learned in the past year:

1. 38 pierogies are too many pierogies.
2. That high-quality alone time is better than low-quality time with others. Hanging out with people for the sake of not being alone isn’t a productive use of time.
3. Toronto is the love of my life.
4. That size does matter. To an extent.
5. That you are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
6. That our path is always perfect, even when we judge it to be otherwise.
7. When each of us does little things, it creates big change.
8. That Jesus is the answer. When the question is, “Which name has been used to justify a great deal of violence, many crimes against humanity and incalculable hatred?”
9. That unhappiness is learned. Our natural state is one of bliss.
10. Wet socks really aren’t bad. They are neither bad nor good until we apply our judgments – they just “are”.
11. Being detached to people and places is one of my greatest struggles.
12. That “yes we can.”
13. I have no idea who I am.
14. Hancock is the worst movie ever filmed.
15. That Scotty Dynamo is the best thing to happen to Canada since Celine.
16. That today is your lucky day.
17. That I love being naked. Okay, I already knew that.
18. Peace begins with each of us.
19. My body is not me.
20. Even the mundane and ordinary is infinitely beautiful.
21. The biggest obstacle in your path to living a more fulfilling, more beautiful life is YOU.
