Today, thanks to an email from a blog buddy, I had the pleasure of watching a captivating video in which a young man expresses his disappointment with church and government leaders for not accepting him as equal. Byron Katie, a renowned personal growth author, guides the young man through an introspective journey that is both moving and empowering.
Instead of writing about the fun and excitement that I’m having here in France, I thought it would be more worthwhile for you to watch this video. The part at 16:08 is very probably the most moving (just in case you don’t have time to watch the whole thing).
I think many of us can see pieces of ourselves in this courageous young man.

I really liked this video. Pretty powerful. I don’t understand why the audience laughed at a couple points…especially when he was crying and emotional.

This was awesome, I love to see people have that breakthrough that allows them to love themselves more. I find it very disheartening to see our fellow gay men suffer but its people like this woman that show me there is hope for them. “To thine own self be true”

Very moving. I can relate to this video in terms of how he couldn’t let go of what his mother said about how being gay would be the biggest disappointment for I’ve been very irritated with my mother now for a couple of years due to a similar comment that she made to me. This video has finally made me realize that I need to let go.

VERY good video for understanding how homophobia can be internalized, and how it then colors one’s whole perception of the world.
It also taught me that my negative judgments about the world are really my negative judgments about myself. So that I would do well to evaluate whether any of those judgments are true, and if so, work on improving myself. If not–throw out all that mental garbage and be free of it!
Thanks for sharing this Daveywavey! I have favorited this video and will share it.

Thanks for that video Davey. I am a homophobic self hating gay man. This post and the video helped me see it. I’m starting to understand it and the stress that I put on my family, friends and myself. I feel this anger melting away.
I do anything to become more manly, i insult fa%gots (people who “act gay”) Wow i needed this slap to the face.
Thanks again Davey!
