Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines a smile as:
Smile (n.) A facial expression in which the eyes brighten and the corners of the mouth curve slightly upward and which expresses especially amusement, pleasure, approval, or sometimes scorn.
I define a smile as a simple and free gesture that can brighten your day – or the day of the people around you.
A smile can spark a conversation or help you make a new friend. A smile can attract people to you and ignite a new relationship.
A smile is the single most important thing you can do to enhance your outward beauty.
A smile can transmit a message of 10,000 words in a split second.
A smile can defuse even the most tense of conflicts.
A smile can melt hearts.
If a butterfly gently flapping its wings in the jungles of Madagascar can indirectly cause a Typhoon off the coast of Jakarta, then imagine what your smile can do. Small actions have big consequences. So today, a gentle reminder to flex the most important muscle you’ve got: Smile. Both at yourself and at others; it can change the world.
Do you think a simple smile can change the world? Has it changed yours? Let us know in the comments below.

Okay, just the blank, yet genuine emotion behind the smile in the picture was enough to brighten my day Davey. The last 12 hours have been a complete nightmare. It’s been rough, and that picture just brightened my day for me.
I’ve also been telling myself, “Today will be a good day, regardless of the start, I WILL get all this figured out and I will have an excellent day.”
Thanks for putting a smile on my face so I can spread it to everyone else!

Ofcourse a smile can change the world. Providing the person has pretty teeth. My grand father always removed his dentures when he drank wine-not to stain them. Other words his teeth were never in his mouth-always drinking wine.
Of course us kids would hide his teeth and he would “pretend” to be angry but we think he got a kick out of it.
Yes to smile is to love!!!!

@DW pretty teeth! And cute dimples. Never realized you have freckles all the way across the bridge of your nose. My father is a orthodontist so his hands were always in our mouths. Still to this day papa always telling us kids to smile so he can see our pretty teeth. Think my father is obsessed with teeth-kinda his job

Davey..I had a wet dream with you last night, so YES..your smile can change the world
November 6, 2010 at 12:45 pm
I definitely think a smile can change the world! It’s so important to smile ’cause when there’s bad stuff a’brewin,’ you’ve gotta not only pick yourself up, but also help others up along with you. Positivity is so crucial to life, and the smile is a wonderful and natural built-in mechanism to create it. Thanks Davey for your posts! You’re truly and inspiration to us all.
For some reason the site puts \ before all of the apostrophes….

A smile can improve the world, so that is a change. This is true though only if the smile is sincere.

The Smile
by William Blake
There is a smile of love,
And there is a smile of deceit,
And there is a smile of smiles
In which these two smiles meet;
And there is a frown of hate,
And there is a frown of disdain,
And there is a frown of frowns
Which you strive to forget in vain,
For it sticks in the heart’s deep core,
And it sticks in the deep back bone,
And no smile that ever was smil’d,
But only one smile alone
That betwixt the cradle and grave
It only once smil’d can be,
But when it once is smil’d,
There’s an end to all misery.

His sparkling smile:
In that smile
The world grows and glows.
In that smile
A new world blossoms.
In that smile
Earth-suffering hears the message
Of fire-pure transformation,
Complete transformation.

Sri Chinmoy:
JUST SMILE
Don’t struggle;
You are bound to fail.
Just smile a sweet smile.
Your life-boat
Is bound to sail,
Without fail.
Don’t cry;
You are bound to fail.
Just smile a soulful smile.
Your life-boat
Is bound to sail,
Without fail.

I agree that a smile from someone else can either brighten my day or really piss me off. For me that’s honest. I’ve heard it said before that life ain’t always ice cream & orgasms!!
There are times if I am honest with myself where I enjoy feeling sorry for myself. If my partner said something mean then sometimes I punish him with letting him know I am sad or being quiet. Believe me I am a work in progress for sure.
I do understand however that if it were not for the difficult days then I don’t know that I would appreciate the really fantastic glorious days.

Today is a really good day. My partner & I are going to spend the night on our boat at lake Austin. We taking our 3 dogs, Joan, Mildred & Beverly. 2 Los apsas & 1 Maltese. We both work very long hours during the week so we plan on rocking the boat.
The reason I tell you this is because there was a time I couldn’t stay sober for more than a couple
dAys . That was almost 10 yrs ago.
I don’t think I would enjoy today nearly as much if I had not struggled for so long.
I never would enjoy today as much as I do had I not struggled for so long. I am blessed beyond

Smiles truly do have a lasting impact on other people. I’m a reconstructive dental specialist (aka a prosthodontist) and I’m constandly rehabilitating patients that have lost their smile due to cancer and traumatic accidents. There’s nothing like the first time when a patient can see their reconstructed smile….it’s like replacing a void in their life

I can agree 100% that a smile can make a difference in someone’s life!! It can turn someone’s day completely around and help them enjoy life a little better – it’s definitely worked for me! It usually has a bigger impact on me if the smile comes from a stranger – that sense of wonder as to why that person was smiling and why they were doing it at me is enough to change my mood for the entire day to a completely positive energy. However; be careful!!! Smiles can be deceiving with vindictive undertones. So – please – Smile Responsibly.

There’s this boy, I think he is way cute. I want to tell him how I feel about him but I don’t have the balls to. I want know how he feels but I dont know how go about asking him. I think I am such afraid of rejection because I have never had this attraction before and I’m way twitterpated when I even think of him, I wonder if he has these same feelings toward me, he’s shown them before kinda but I don’t know if the attraction had gone away. I just need encouragement to ask him I think.
November 7, 2010 at 3:09 am
Hey, Connor jay? I think you should tell him how you feel. I hurt myself for not confessing my feelings to the one I loved. Even though I know he would reject me a part of me still wanted to know. Did he ever love me. I will try to take your advice Davey Wavey, and try to truly smile again. Thanks

hi dave, I think a smile lights up the world inside and out
I smiled so much when I was young and was told by my first dad to wipe the grin from my face, that was over 35 year ago and it is rarely ever back, I know it is a long time but life can be so great yet I cannot express it, a smile lets the world know there will always be great time ahead

a smile is love itself

November 7, 2010 at 3:45 pm
hi guys i forgot this stuff earlier but i was a very very smiley person when i was a lot younger but i was constantly told by my 1st dad to wipe the smile off my face which happened as if overnight and 35 years later i find it hard to smile genuinely
i have had love but it was painful and i ended it myself
