All of us see the world a bit differently. We all come from different experiences, have been raised in various circumstances and experience a multitude of diverse cultures. As such, it’s only natural that we’ll all have different opinions when it comes to – well, just about everything.
When we encounter someone that believes differently than us, we have two options. We can either attempt to assert our perspective on them, or we can accept their divergent viewpoint for what it is.
As it turns out, taking the former route is generally unfruitful and often requires a tremendous amount of time, energy and effort. At the end of the day, the mind changes from within – and not because someone argues otherwise. At the very best, we can plant seeds of our truths by the way we live and hope they grow.
On the other hand, a quiet acceptance of differing ideas requires no energy and feeds no neurosis. There is something to be said for defenselessness; isn’t it enough that you hold a belief internally without forcing it on others? How much more peaceful the world would be if we stopped asserting our own beliefs are truer, righter or more superior.
At any given time, about half of the world is going to disagree with us half the time. If you spend your precious time, energy and effort constantly resisting that other half, then who would have any time left to do… well, anything?
That people believe differently makes us an interesting people. And that we can entertain the beliefs of others – even in lively or passionate discussion – without judgment or retribution is necessary for a peaceful coexistence. Today, in a special way, I honor the differences of opinion, perspective and belief that make this world so colorful without feeling the defend myself against them.

Amen to that!
October 25, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Amen to this. I am guilty as charged. Of course Davide not the only rotten apple in the bushel he just happens to have the worst worms.
October 25, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Oops forgot my “bravo” and my apologies to you DW. Busting balls has always been my calling. So in all humility I only ask forgiveness for my constant attacks on your jewels. I am thankful you wear a cup. AKA ignoring me and my insensitive rants. Perhaps my siblings has warned you about me?
they ignore me too

Agree to Disagree!
October 25, 2010 at 2:07 pm

I hope you are all familiar with the poem upon which the image is based. http://www.noogenesis.com/pineapple/blind_men_elephant.html

This was one of my topics at the GRE I had this saturday. This time I agree:
Without different point of view, Columbus would’ve stayed home…
October 25, 2010 at 2:43 pm
If we all were the same, the world would have been a boring place by now.
October 25, 2010 at 3:09 pm
Not if we all born Italian
October 25, 2010 at 3:12 pm
i like to learn about other peoples perspective and see how it works to expand my own point of view…
October 25, 2010 at 3:14 pm
Not half the world disagrees half the time,
only Davide disagrees every time!
October 25, 2010 at 3:14 pm
You reaally had to add something. (What? U wanna argue with me now?
)
October 25, 2010 at 3:26 pm

October 25, 2010 at 3:35 pm
You see, you’re the star! lol
October 25, 2010 at 3:39 pm
Of course they large and adorable..totally makes up for my small and insignificant penis. Why you think us Italians are the best lovers? We have to work twice as hard as you guys with normal to huge lollipops. Would also explain my cockiness- total penis envy.
October 25, 2010 at 3:40 pm
U forgot that I’m awesomer than you. Paradise on earth, really? You wanna spend the rest of ur life eating spaghetti, pizza and lasagna?
October 25, 2010 at 3:40 pm
see…we just need to find something happy to comment about…
October 25, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Halelujah sister, but what about those f*****s that go to military funerals with signs that say the reason our soldiers are dying is because the country is being punished for being gay friendly. I understand the sentiment of peace & forgivness & agree most times,..however all the way back to stonewall we have had to fight for acceptance.
October 25, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Westboro Church < Patriot Guard
=) im also trying to join the armed forces…
October 25, 2010 at 3:52 pm
If people would just ignore that group of people-the Westboro Church who happen to be mostly family aka cult..they would go away. It’s when we draw attention to them they are fed. They are a tiny and insignificant group of people who cares what they say? Think or do? Stop giving into their fear mongering and hate filled speech. It’s their right to be stupid
October 25, 2010 at 4:05 pm
they got sued…and i dont think they exist anymore
October 25, 2010 at 4:05 pm
I heard about westbro too.. It is sad that are people in the world whom are so close-minded. At least ur country is gay-friendly. Mine, if people get to see two boys kissing for example, those two boys then would have to move out of town because of them.
October 25, 2010 at 4:17 pm
I guess maybe but the very few funerals I have attended have always been reverent & respectful of the person that has passed. It really poises me off. Just like that dipshit senator this last weekend tried to make a link between being gay & alchoholism. Being a recovering alchi myself this angers me to no end. I wonder if he would have the same opinion if his son or daughter were gay?
October 25, 2010 at 5:08 pm
i drink every few months at big family events. I being bi-sexual doesn’t make me drink. Me being me allows me the choice. Also…In-N-Out FTW
October 25, 2010 at 6:30 pm
Some of the most interesting conversations I have had were with people I have disagreed with. There is nothing more stimulating than a healthy debate!!
October 25, 2010 at 7:10 pm
“[...]tried to make a link between being gay & alcoholism”. Wait..what? Damn, and I thought that only my country had stupid politicians.
October 25, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Oh dear already? Lol people these days.
October 25, 2010 at 10:20 pm
I wish there were a ‘Like’ button for this comment! Too funny Davide
BRAVO!

Acceptance of those whom are of the opinion that you should die because you are gay and/or an Infidel is not wise or proper. But in your previous post DW.. You’ve made it clear that you support those that would kill you.. or me or most of your friends.. were it not for a matter of geography.. (you live here instead of there).. thinking that it is smart to help them establish a foothold here.. without any consequences.. is nothing short of wishful thinking.. lack of wisdom and a really bad display of willful ignorance. For what? For the sake of “quiet acceptance of differing ideas”? It may be the easy way out, or as you say ” requires no energy and feeds no neurosis.” But the next time you read about about another woman being stoned to death for adultery.. another honor killing of a daughter or another young gay man being hung to death for the crime of being gay.. you might try to put yourself in his or her place. Then try to imagine how you or anyone in the world would quietly accept the opposing viewpoint that demands your death.. at the exact same moment in time that sweet DW is going on and on in his public forum, instructing the rest of us.. not only to accept quietly, such horrific opposing viewpoints.. but to help enable that viewpoint gain a foothold in this country.. at the very spot where it had murdered 3,000 innocent people.
Like it or not, this is a dangerous world we live in.. playing nice with those that only wish to kill you is foolish. I’m thinking you really should consider breaking a few more of the illusions that you seem determined to cling to.. especially the dangerous ones.
October 26, 2010 at 3:56 pm
I drink everyday!!! At least two classes of wine or a beer! Am I an alcoholic? Nope just Italian?
October 26, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Grazie!!
October 26, 2010 at 6:02 pm

October 26, 2010 at 9:41 pm
Acceptance of those whom are of the opinion that you should die because you are gay and/or an Infidel is not wise or proper.
The idea isn’t to accept or adopt people’s views. Certainly we have every right to disagree with anyone we wish to. The idea is to accept the people and accept that they have a right to their views as we do. Allowing a person to hold an opinion is a far cry from affirming actions that harm others. We are talking only about belief here.
October 26, 2010 at 10:11 pm
I was not!!! Can’t spell! Okay back to bed got for pee break… Too much wine last night.. And I lost my shoe. Only one..don’t ask I was slightly inebriated last night! But I was not drunk!!! Burp
October 27, 2010 at 1:10 am
I’m sorry Mosaic Dave, but if someone’s view is that they have the right to kill you.. for whatever reason.. much less because you may be gay.. and that viewpoint is routinely translated into actual executions.. then tolerating or accepting their right to have that idea.. is by default.. nothing short of affirming their actions.. their murderous actions. When someone’s belief is a real threat.. the ‘Making Nice’ option is no longer valid.. We aren’t talking about the view that apples are better than oranges.. we are talking about the belief that a group of like minded true believers have.. TO KILL YOU.. (given the right geography). Tolerating that is not wise. They don’t care if you tolerate them or not.. Their law.. their idea is simply to kill all gay people.
It’s a viewpoint that is a real threat to my life.. your life.. DW’s life.. and probably nearly everyone of DW’s fans.
(again, except for the geography.. we are here.. not there..)
But offering those true believers any form of consolation.. or telling them to “come on in.. Bring it here! it’s OK.. we are tolerant of your beliefs.. we are accepting of all viewpoints.. please help yourself and build your victory mosque over there.. on the same spot where other true believers murdered 3,000 non believers..”
is neither open minded nor progressive.. it’s insanity.
The next time you hear another gay man was or is about to be murdered by the various states that practice such “beliefs”.. Ask yourself if you had a chance to talk to that gay man about to be hung till he dies.. face to face.. would you say, “don’t worry.. it’s only a belief.. it’s only a viewpoint..” ?
And while you’re at it, explain to him how you could possibly justify his gay brothers and sisters around the world encouraging and welcoming the same true believers to bring the same idea (now in the form of a noose around his neck..) Here. Or to any country.. Anywhere. Much less to the very spot where other true believers.. clearly demonstrated that terror and death can be brought about by an idea..
and that somehow tolerating that idea..
is a good idea.
