Honk if You Love Me [Video]

Living in New York City, I hear A LOT of horn honking. In fact, I was starting to let all the honking drive me a little bit bonkers. But instead of coming completely undone, I decided to do something different – and use each honk as a reminder that the universe loves me. Now, honking has become something quite beautiful.

  1. HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK!!!

  2. I really believe that this is the truth. The way we respond to words, honks, etc is what makes the difference, isn’t it?

When someone calls me tall. It doesn’t bother me. I never think about it again. That is because I am 5’8″. There is no way I am tall and I do not believe it to be negative.

But when someone calls me a gay slur it hurts. Because I am gay. It is who I am. It reminds me of being back in middle school and facing the kids. It brings me back to being bullied and I react the same.

Someone else, who is gay, might have a different reaction. It is all based on our experiences, our lives and how we react to what is said.

I love that you take the honks to mean love. I have learned how to reframe a lot of negative things people do to mean positive things. It helps.

In the end, when people say things to put you down, hurt your feelings, etc. It really isn’t about you. It is about them and their feelings around something.

All we can do is smile and keep living life out loud.

  3. thats a great way to think!

  4. Yea you tell that flaming French girl off :D

    Oh lulz…

  5. Michael there was something so pure and heartfelt about what you posted. Very moving. I loved it. Very transparent.

  6. Sweet, Davey, you are the ruler of your universe… might as well have people be loving you al the time, since they do and are all the time, and we easily forget it!

  7. ok, so let me take my car and drive all over my town and honk for you!!!

    HONK HONK…
    ;-)
The entire universe loves you DW!!

  8. lol I’ve just realised that you have oscillating eyebrows interesting. Rapid and repeated up and down movements of the eyebrows may be an exaggerated signal, meaning ‘Well how about that then!’…….interesting……raised eyebrows is generally done when you are surprised also when as question is asked and the eyebrows raised afterwards and raising a single eyebrow can mean, well for example asking ‘Are you sure?’ when the other person appears to be talking with limited accuracy…….interesting also in an old video when you said “I don’t wear a shirt just for ratings, i swear” you lifted you hand to the back of your neck which is a signal for anger others think differently. Something for you to all think and ponder about.

  9. I would honk for you all day but there is a $350 fine for honking! Do they enforce it? NO! Oh well… HONK!

  10. I love this saying: “All we can do is smile and keep living life out loud.” Can I borrow it?

  11. WTF?

  12. Yeah! I am old enough to remember when the no honking rule was put in force. I suspect that if you are hearing a lot in Manhattan, it is time for calls to local radio stations to get the drivers and the police to remember the law!!

When that law came in it really changed life in NYC! Of course up here in Boston drivers just hit you or come so close you wished they
had honked. They seem to be too polite to honk!

  13. Go to India and you will have constant orgasms if you think all that honking is a love signal.
There, they turn on the key and honk even before they put the car in gear, then they steer with one hand and honk with the other. Not my idea of Nirvana, la.

    Be well,

  14. When I hear a horn honk, I think back to a story I heard about geese. When geese fly, they always fly in a “V” formation. The lead goose has the hard job of leading the flock, as it experiences pressure from the air it is flying against. As each goose flaps its wings in its place in the formation, it creates uplift for the goose following it. By flying in a “V” formation, scientists have calculated that the whole flock adds up to 71 % more flying range than if the geese flew separately. Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it immediately feels the increased drag from flying on its own. It quickly gets back into formation to recover the lifting effect of the bird immediately in front. When the goose in the lead gets tired, it rotates back into the group, and another goose takes its place in the lead. All the geese in the formation honk to encourage the one in the lead to keep up the speed. So therefore, every time you hear a honk, you should just assume that it is someone else in your flock trying to encourage you!
