I want to live in a country where…

From Keri Smith’s blog:

I want to live in a country where pop media is a form of self-expression and not of mind control.
I want to live in a country where farmers are valued more than lawyers.
I want to live in a country where more money is spent on education than on war.
I want to live in a country where the public health is not determined by profit margins.
I want to live in a country where the bicycle industry is more heavily subsidized than the auto industry.

Inspired by the post, here are my own wants:

I want to live in a country where equal rights for a minority aren’t determined by the majority.

I want to live in a country where all citizens are treated as brothers and sisters.

I want to live in a country where violence is a bigger taboo than nudity.

I want to live in a country where salaries are determined by skill sets and experience, and not genitals.

I want to live in a country where the future of the planet is more important than past grievances.

What about you? What kind of country do you want to live in?

  1. then you wanner live in denmark davey

    • the only country in Europe where the police is prompt
to lock people up before they commit crimes!

    • Denmark-is pretty close to being the ideal place.there is no utopia on earth.Denmark-tries to improve-the better type of mousetrap.as a figure of speech.

    • The police rounded up in a preventive action 968 mouses
      in Copenhagen on last Saturday!
      Aggressively!
An unexpected effect of the climate change on the policemen?

    • “mouses” : pl mice!

    • What about Cristiania, does that still exist?

    • Then you want to live in France where the food is excellent, the language beautiful, the countryside incredible, healthcare available to all at nominal rates, where war is abhorred, and life and family appreciated. I am hoping to be there in full retirement within three years.

    • Yes, but th eonly problem is that it is full of the French

    • LOL Luc yes true!!!

    • As one who lives in French right here in Montréal, Québec.
I am surprised that someone in this blog space would say such a mindless thing. I might also add that if it weren’t for the French you would still be a subject of the British Queen. (We are and it feels so quaint.) You would have no restaurants. No wine!. No fashion (oh my god!!! what would we do without fashion?) You would be running around in skins, no doubt. The French were smart enough to say “No merci” to Bush as was the French speaking Prime Minister of Canada. The smartest thing I ever did was to leave the USA and learn French while living amonst some of the most brilliant, remarkable, sexy people on this planet.

      Now, take that back!

    • Greg my friend i believe it was all in good fun…besides want it american blood that saved the french in world war II? was it not the american people who bailed out France’s public transportation in the 1950s. BTW us Italians are the sexiest people on the planet. And our language of the angels. But my friend I do apologized if I have offended you while agreeing with Luc. please forgive me Amico! Grazie

    • You are welcome Tom!

Too good to be entirely true. I’m sorry to disappoint you, our current president is trying to imitate the american model. He even tries to jog each morning like certain presidents.
I remember having read that last time he jogged, he had run out of breath and an ambulance had to drive him to hospital. I think that he should slow down a bit on joggings and also on the reforms he imposes in an overbearing manner to France like the monarch he think he has become.
Don’t worry, I’m quite sure that nobody will choose him again! I think he really has best chances to be elected on the other side of the Atlantic. The Americans might love his glitzy/flashy side! (lol)

      bye,

      bye,

    • “war is abhorred.” You are correct, so much so that that America had to come in and
fight the German’s in France to keep the Nazi’s from taking over France. No thanks- would
never live in France- the French are WAY too stuck up for me

    • It was not really to help us that Americans decided to fight in Europe the Nazis, but most probably because they were afraid that the next step of Hitler might be on the other side of Atlantic! And sorry, but they had also the idea to stay in France. Happily, we didn’t allow them to stay! ….I can’t simply imagine a Mc Donald’s at each corner of a street!
      bye,

ps: I won’t pass judgment on a nation; it’s absurd to do so!

    • oh my friend there are plenty of Mcdonalds in France :)

    • Oh my friend, it could have been worse!

  2. I want to live in a country where everything is perfect. Oh, I’ve just found it : Neverland!

    • I live in the next best thing: NeDerland (the netherlands),
but it deteriorates too… nothing is perfect, and I’m happy it’s not, otherwise what will I have to do?!

    • All in Europe goes up in smoke, though not so strange for
Ned(v)erland (lol)! but I like this country,
it’s rather cool to live there!,…. “Ik zal handhaven”!

      bye

    • me too! Finally someone who doesn’t plain complain about the netherlands^^

    • I spent 3 summers in Den Haag!

      bye,

    • But, gosh, who could complain on Netherlands?
      It is sooo great country…:)

    • Nederland-the Netherlands-yes Holland-seems to have hit the mark in the balance for tolerance and diversity.however-lately the immigrant situation seems to local citizens-to be getting out of hand.people are very afraid of different cultures and religions-this is evident-reading the Dutch Press.this country has been at the crossroads as a world trader-an empire-the Dutch had influence-their wealth expanded-by perfecting world trade-they need to get back to their values-being civic and fair minded.Foreigners-living there need to be reminded-to embrace Dutch Society-not to change it.After all-why did you emigrate there in the first place?

    • Netherland like many other countries in Europe has now to
submit to laws edicted for Europe.
      Free circulation goods and people,etc….

      bye,

  3. I agree 100% with you, Davey. Sadly, there are people out there who place an emphasis on the wrong things. And then they demonize us liberals for trying to create a world where everyone is equal and there is peace and environmental conscience.

  4. I want to live in a country where people can be taught how to be good parents.

    • Right on Hilary! Unfortunately, there is a continuing cycle of people having kids who are UNPREPARED for it and make WOEFULLY inadequate parents. There should be a MANDATORY parenting classes or something to break the cycle.

  5. I want to live in a country where people are more concerned with the national agenda than Tiger Woods’ sex life.

I want to live in a country that spends more on health care than war.

I want to live in a country that places more value on the poor than the wealthy

I want to live in a country that celebrates diversity instead of judging people based on the superficial.

I want to live in a country that cares as much about the fate of the planet as it does about industry.

Finally, I want to live in a country where I can marry the person of my choice without having to relocate to one of a handful of states.

    • I want to move to that country with you! But I believe that the country should be more cared about global warming than industry. Period. I believe Canada has legalized gay marriage. You should live here, and get married wherever and whenever you want!
      Peace.

    • Canada maybe good for Gay marriage, and health care but sorry they are bad for the environment case in point the Tar pits are a big environment issue

    • My friend, Canada is not “good” for healthcare. Both of my parents are physicians in Ohio and they can tell personal stories of Canadians dying each year waiting on medical treatment or the thousands who cross the border each year in search of health care. As of most of europe, (Italy my birthplace) Canada, where healthcare “is free” it is failing or has failed. Just because something is “free” doesnt mean it is good. Socialized medicine is a mess and does not work, and literally thousands each year on this rock we call earth die from it.

    • yeah-i want to live in a country-where-if i get married in massachusetts-and i get into an airliner-i dont need to keep checking the legality of our marriage.from state to state.

    • As a Canadian, I say David M-D is totally delusional. Ask any Canadian if she or he would trade places with the US ‘health careless’ system and you will get a 100% resounding NO WAY! The US is in the stone ages when it comes to realizing that they are not the “most bestest” country on Earth, nor have they ever been.

We have bus loads of US women coming here for therapeutic abortions that your system refuses them depending on which state they are unlucky enough to live in. Our health care ID cards are counterfeited by people from every country in the world. Any emergency gets treated immediately (my son’s appendectomy done within an hour of walking into the emergency room, and no one said a word about how we would pay for it.) When you need it done now, it is done now. If it can wait, you wait. Yes we do have some (richer) folks who don’t like to wait for their turn, so they jump the line by going to your mom and dad’s for profit clinic in the States. Ain’t choice wonderful. As for folks dying because of refused service, that’s more Glen Beck crap than reality.

While I’m on a rant, I want to live right where I am, in the kinder, gentler country called Canada! Hey, even we gays can marry here!

    • therapeutic abortions thats something Canada can be proud of..as for the rest my friend i have nothing else to add. I love Canada, one of the cleanest countries on earth. The people there are awesome and polite. I apologize if my “opinion” has made you angry. Never my intention to offend you or your home. I just do not agree with the health care your country provides for its citizens. Amico u do understand that I am sincerely apologizing to you. Davide

    • my friend Christopher my home is Cincinnati…however i dont believe it can be called “appalachian” considering that is in the south east of the state, I live in the south west. my political views i am kinda middle of the road guy…a moderate i guess. Not to far left, or right..i guess on most social issues i am to the left..except abortion…

    • Davide-fair enough.i shouldve elaborated.so sorry.i recently have been to Cincinnati-and i did experience good things during my stay there.i shouldnt make hasty stereotypical accusations.i learned early in life there is good and bad.but it is true-as you travel southeast from Cincy sliding through Ohio into Kentucky things change.for bad and for good.Even Pittsburgh Steelers Football Fans were treated nicely downtown-in Ft.Wright-Covington and Newport.p.s.i beleive abortion-to be wrong as well.

    • Christopher all is well my friend, u have not offended me. Grazie!!! Davide

  6. i want to live in a country where everyone is kind and appreciates this magnificent universe as much as davey wavey (and me) does!!!! it would be a perfectttt country <3

  7. As we transition into this century I challenge you to look at the past 200 years or so without judgement, but simply for what it is.

We used to live in a time that can be defined as there is an ideal we all have to live up to, but never will. The perfect man, the perfect woman. there has been the tension of opposites. Right/ wrong, left/right, black/white, good/evil.

Life and our ideas were defined.

However our consciousness is changing. People fight for equal rights.

In addition, with technology development global awareness has increased. Religion has much less control now because we can see the truth of our existance.

We are equal, together, not seperate.

We are transitioning into living in love, not fear. Equality through diversity, because no matter what we all eat, drink, love, hate, cry, feel, etc. We are all essentially the same. Anb all life has a purpose. We are not anymore important that a different gender, race, species, etc.

Currently we live in fear. Religions teach us that. Culture teaches that. But look around. See the beautiful changes taking place. All the freedom movements.

It feels slow sometime. But change is a ripple affect and takes time.

Don’t fear. Yes in our incarnation we might not see the full results of the change and work taking place. But then again no one will. The only constant is change, energy transformation.

So enjoy the process, and look into the beauty of the future. Look at today and see the beauty all around you.

And don’t forget, life never ends. You will be back to experience the love and beauty all around again.

  8. I want to live in a country that respects it’s native Aboriginal people that came before us.

I want to live in a country that respects it’s children to come by ensuring sustainability is a reality and not a political catch phrase.

I want to live in a country where University education isn’t for a elite few but an opportunity that anyone can aspire to.

I want to live in a country where homophobia, climate change denial and religious piety aren’t considered to be conservative ‘values’.

I want to live in a country that doesn’t constitutionally ban the love to two same sex people committing for a loving life together.

(I tried to include some uniquely Australian ones but it’s obvious there problems pervade almost every country the world around.)

  9. I want to live in a country that believes in human rights. Rights for everyone. Rights based on the fact we are all the same and not rights based on what we judge as being normal or not.

Rights so a gay man can check on his partner of 15 years in the hospital. The same rights a drunk 19 year old gets after making a mistake in Vegas.

I want to live in a country where sexuality isn’t a reason to discriminate or cause harm to another. I want to live in a country where it is not ok to call someone a f*g.

I want to live in a country where it is not ok to for kids in school to bully other kids. Where self image is taught in middle school and not later in life as an adult struggling already with self esteem issues.

I want to live in a country where we believe love is love. We learn to lead with love, show love and act with love.

  10. That one you just mentioned.

  11. i want to live right where I am… I live on a lovely island, beautiful beaches, you don’t have to lock your car and people smile and say hello when you pass in the street! my beautiful home :-)

  12. I want to live in a country where a girl doesn’t get raped outside of her high school prom while at least 20 people watch…

I want to live in a country where politicians actually do what they say they are going to…

I want to live in a country where people of all kinds can be free of persecution….

I want to live in a country where people have forsaken wealth and social status for the betterment of everyone…

I want to live in a country where our lives aren’t run by advertisers….

And finally, I want to live in a country where people not only actually talk to each other, but they listen as well

    • i want to live in a country that has affordable higher education for all-not just for the elite rich.(where you dont have to stockpile huge amounts of money-to get an education.)

  13. I want to live in a country where both sexes are protected from genital mutilation.

  14. Welcome to Canada Davey! :D

    • its no accident Canada-has been voted-year after year-the best nation-to emigrate to.and in Canada-the people dont jump up and down chanting-Were Number One.They just do it.

    • If this is true how come the largest illegal immigrants to the United States are Canadians? Even surpases Mexicans.

    • thats not true-all major cities in u.s.a.-have illegal alien problem coming from Latin America.name a major u.s. city-you will find it everywhere.

    • my point is that there are more Canadians in the the US than Mexicans. Ofcourse its harder to see cause Canadians look like white America. Mexicans do not. I guess if Canadians had a maple leaf tattooed to their foreheads we would see more clearly. I am a immigrant also. My family moved the United States when I was 14. And I became a US citizen at 20. My family came to American cause my father and mother wanted a “better” life for their 7 children. The only difference being they had to jump thru fire, red tape, but they did it legally. And I think they are glad they did. I know I am. Even though I have dual citizenship Italy/US and i travel to Italy at least once a year. I consider myself an American and feel Blessed and grateful that I can do so. America will always have issues with “illegal aliens” (hate that term), till these poorer countries have decent wages and living conditions for their citizens, no wall or fence will stop it. It is basic human nature to want the best for your family. The need for education, freedom, good living conditions, food and sanitation do not stop at the borders.

    • Davide-fair enough-you speak well of this.i have experience of this not only in the U.S.-but Canada and Germany-as well-precisely what you speak of.no dissagrement on your above mentioned entry above.BTW-can you elaborate exactly what happened in Milan-to President Silvio Berlusconi-ive heard he had a run-in with a citizen.

    • Christopher, I only know what I heard on the news about the PM..i was in Rome at the time heading to San Marino when all this happened. I am currently in Venice. I will be heading to Milan here in about an hour. Milan is my home town.. but i will say Italy has been in a political mess for years….Grazie, davide

  25. Why not try Baltic States? A lot of hot and handsome guys there.

  26. I want to live on a planet where countries don’t exist.

I want to live on a planet where compassion is the higest ethical standard.

I want to live on a planet where the plenty that the planet produces is not hoarded by the few so that billions live in poverty.

I want to live on a planet where the fact of the relatedness of all living things is honored.

And to help that happen, I remember the lyrics of Imagine by John Lennon:
    Imagine there’s no heaven
    It’s easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today…

    Imagine there’s no countries
    It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

    Blessed Solstice to all.

    • Peace and blessings be upon you too, brother Leland, and all others here as well.

Solstice, the time of renewal, the return toward the light.

      A sacred moment.

      Be well,

    • Leland,

Thanx for your post and for changing the word country to the word planet.

And thanx for including the lyrics to “Imagine”, they pretty much say it all.

I want to live on a planet where ALL Life is sacred and is respected as such.

I want to live on a planet where hatred, cruelty, and intolerance are replaced with love, kindness, and respect for individual uniqueness.

      Peace, Love, and Truth,

      Todd in VA

  40. I want to live in THIS country…with every person trying their best… each and every day… to treat others and the world around them with dignity and caring respect.

  41. Very well spoken Davey, I think putting the world into perspective where it’s a much better place when the individual is valued for more than what they have to offer, showing respect and dignity for all is most commonly said between the posts.

    Happy Holidays!

    Vance.

  42. I want to live in a country where…people weren’t scared to do follow their heart.

  43. Um, Can I live in all your countries? Sounds pretty awesome not gonna lie.

  46. One word “Canada”

  47. A country that prefers reason to ideology is a good start.

  48. O CANADA!

And my home and beloved land of Quebec.
Where we can agree to disagree and still respect one another.
