Today, I was struck by a thought.
When a flower blooms, other flowers don’t approach the bud to pull at its petals. There aren’t legions of insects urging the flower to bloom faster. Humming birds don’t push the blossom in a different direction. The flower doesn’t struggle to share it’s radiance with the world.
Instead, a flower simply unfolds with great ease and no effort or coercion.
Like a flower, life is exceedingly beautiful. Unlike a flower, we almost always have audiences pulling us one way or another. Do this and avoid that. Buy this and wear that. Listen to me. Listen to her. Don’t listen to him.
If we were puppets, a million puppeteers would be clamoring for our many strings; many forces compete to control our desires and guide our lives.
And perhaps we find ourselves struggling to pull the strings of others.
We can learn a lot from a flower.

Listening to yourself and letting yourself grow to your own pace will definitely benefit anyone.

WOW- this one applied to me today! Someone at work was recommending changes to my class that wasn’t me. I am ME. Not you. Not him. Not her. Thank you for sharing but let me be me. And enjoy!

“Today, I was struck by a thought.” – my how Carrie Bradshaw of you Davey.

Time…just let it be and things will work out as they should…
July 17, 2009 at 12:09 am
So are you pulling OUR strings, wanting us to believe this?!?!
July 17, 2009 at 12:33 am
What a beautiful analogy. I love it.
July 17, 2009 at 1:15 am
I meditate to a philosophy somewhat like this…
I am beautiful like a flower.
I am unmoving like a mountain.
I reflect truth like a lake.
& I am free like space.
We are strong beings of the universe, I hope we realize it.
July 17, 2009 at 1:22 am
wow that’s beautiful!
July 17, 2009 at 6:33 am
oh-if we could all be flowers.
July 17, 2009 at 6:35 am
oh-and we are.
July 17, 2009 at 7:46 am
Have you been talking to them Davey? How do you know they do not struggle?
It might be like the Gay scene – plenty of butch not much real butch.
Mnay an old queen has been delighted to go along the docks and thrilled at picking up a “rael staright man” only to be crestfallen when they roll over and plead to be seen to….
F*** Me the plaintif cry.
Maybe it is the same with plants.
maybe they wait till they are strong before they open.
Or wait till they know there is real talent around and not just some old wasp who has just visited the local thistle.
July 20, 2009 at 7:24 pm
That is what I like best about “real straight men”.
They make the Best Bottoms.

David,
AMEN.

Dearest Davey,
I have creeping trumpet vines growing on my pergola, over my deck, They are about 20 years old now, and very full. As the flower buds appear, they cannot open on their own, except for the help of tiny ants that actually cut (eat) the green membrane of the bud thus allowing the trumpet flower to mature, open, and feed the honey bees and humming birds that frequent my afternoons in Maryland.
I love you Davey, I guess what I’m saying is sometimes we need others to help us grow, just like Davey Wavey has helped me!
Love you, joey
July 17, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Just like your trumpet vines pionies need the ant to clean off the oil/wax from their buds before they can open up. There’s many plants that need outside help to bloom. What about bees, butterflies, wasp and other bugs that spread the flower’s pollen from one flower to another for fertilization. We all need some help. Could be Davey’s helping us?
July 17, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Sounds like you have done pretty good on your own to me.
Great to hear your description and know there is someone who is observant and loves nature = who has an interest in life beyond simple sexual desire.
Accept the good things about Davey but don’t idolise him. Like all of us he does have faults.

Some cultures refer to gays as “flowers.” So plant some.
July 19, 2009 at 4:30 pm
And a flower doesn’t think any of the other flowers are prettier or better. It just is and in doing so, it shares its beauty with all the world. It just is.
July 22, 2009 at 1:54 pm
but what about flowers that open and close….what are they hiding or trying to protect from the world? why do they have to be so selfish as to close every night and awaken every morning after the sun.
Oh and I seriously used to believe we were all puppets…literally puppets. And in some ways i still believe it.

life is what you make of it..GO GO GO..
DONT WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING UNLESS ITS FAMILY THEY COME 2ND GOD 1ST THEN EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST THERE…DO WHAT YOU DO DONT WORRY IF YOU WORRY LIFE WILL GET YOU DOWN. with age you’ll see.. i use to care what everone thinks but when folks come and go you’ll learn only thing that matters is family mom and dad sisters and brothers a lover that really cares and dont cheat.. haha that last one wont happen gay men dont know how to love only one.. look good feel good go on
July 29, 2009 at 1:35 pm
What a bigotted view about the community you belong to.
What a passive attitude to life.
What a cop out.
We can be the equal of anyone we choose.
Of course we can be faithful.
Of course we can make successful relationships.
It is up to us to make it work and stop excusing
ourselves when we cheat on our partners.
People who say “it wont happen gay men dont know how to love only one.”
simply don’t want to try.
If we fail we have nobody to blame but ourselves….
We cannot blame being gay or the gay community.
The failure is personal.
… from one who failed!

I need to try and block these people pulling my petals out. I’ve had a lot of that lately. I need to bloom my own way on my own time.
July 30, 2009 at 4:32 am
Suffer little flower – I want my pot pourri.
