I saw a bit of it on TV. I was at the inauguration, but with two million people there it was like being in a combo gay str8 bar, with the cutest girls and boys (including Davey) all naked, resulting in a sardine can packing of people.

But on a more serious note, comparing Pres. Obama to Bush, Bush isn't one tenth the man Obama is, though he almost certainly wins re the size of his penis (dick), cuz that is all he is. Maybe related to why he chose cheney also.

Well, there was the gay hating maggot christian preacher Ted Haggard (and so many others), whom it was not at all surprising to find out likes to have guys suck his member so much that he was willing to pay for it. Now that Bush is out of office, maybe someone will dump the truth about them. Maybe Cheney's gay daughter. Think of it - the two of them ............................... [smiles]

well expressed. encouraging to see a number of people on here not afraid to look at the real essence of this and of obama. There was courage in his speech and as a whole the inauguration was uplifting but not as much as one would expect. Obama has a potential gift and talent to utilise and uphold integrity and truth in office. Lets give him and his soul a chance to express this and evolve. At the same time he will be seduced tempted and distracted by all manner of people in his pathways; it is how he handles and responds to them and his challenges that will now reveal the essence of obama. Unfortuately the celebrity element which was HUGE at the event dragged down the overall energy of the day; and i hear obama is a big fan of Jay-Z - well sadly that is not good Jay-Z is an expression of dark energy and an extremely shady character. So you can see how the power and the allure and aphrodisiac of power will truly test and challenge obama in his term as president. On the taking the OATH - given that BUSH did this ritual twice well what does that say to you about the value and upholding of that. BUSH will endure his remaining days submerged in unconscious guilt that he cannot ever escape until he wakes up to his deeds and actions over the years; not likely in his drugged out state - did you seem him in his address miked up for his speech prompting, he absolutely is on something and i dont mean medication.

Of course we are not there yet. We will never be there. Life's not about being there, it about the JOURNEY that LEADS us there. And as long as we are going in the right direction, putting forth sincere effort with good intentions and openminded intellectual discernment, we are making PROGRESS. And I want to beleive (and hope)that Mr. hOpeBAMA is doing just that. And as so many others have already said, it is not for us to follow him, but rather to walk/work side by side with him. Together WE can make a difference. "Yes, WE can!"

Today I myself wondered if others would compare Oboma to Reagan in their ability to unite the country. Politics has NOTHING to do with this.I hated Reagan's politics but I admired his charisma and his ability to resonate with the country.Strong leaders do matter to a country for the better or for the worse. Hitler is a prime example. If Oboma is the leader he seems to be and if he will work for the good of the country as he says he will then we have alot to look forward to. I'm going to bed now happy in my dreams of the future and not wanting to hear any more negative comments tonight.---Ted

It is really sad to me that the word "black" was even uttered today by the media and by other blog members.Human beings should be acknowledged for what they have accomplished and for their contributions to the good of all humanity. Nothing else should matter. Oboma seems to be a very open, honest, compassionate man. I will trust him until he gives me reason not to. Ted

What a negative- defeatist attitude you have! Here we have the first opportunity for hope and change in a long long time and you don't seem to want to give him a chance. For once in years I was proud of my country today. I was fortunate enough to be on vacation at a gay resort in Key West Florida USA to watch the inaugeration at the bar with all gay freinds. I was also privilaged to buy champaign for the house and propose a toast for all our future as an american and a member of the gay community. We were all delerious with joy today. This country needs a leader with a vision to improve all our lives and to return our country to greatness------and we just may have him.Peace and prosperity to you all.
It's very easy to be a spectator, commentating and analysing those people on the court who are playing the game. I'm reading a lot of that in the posts in here.

Obama's skin colour makes absolutely no difference in how he will govern. But it makes all the difference for the black youth out there who have a role model in the highest office in the city. Real or perceived, there is a wall that separates the races in people's minds. It's tough for people to break through the wall unless they've seen someone who appears like they do has done it first

Obama will not be able to change the world for each of his constituents. He is one man. What he can do is inspire people through his oratory and his natural charisma; to incite them to do those things that they could and should do for themselves. Some people have no idea that they have the power within them to make a difference for themselves and for their lives. They are resigned and cynical about the situation. What's more is they don't know it. And they don't know that they don't know it. If Obama can give them hope and inspire them to be the change they wish to see in their worlds then maybe he can change the world for each of his constituents - each one who actually takes his messages to heart.

Obama is far left and could potentially alienate all the centre-right supporters he now enjoys. Even still, he is your President. As one nation, it's critical you support your President regardless of your political beliefs and opinions. Most people criticize people of the opposite political stripe rather than working with them. One of the great things we could learn from Ronald Reagan is that it is possible to disagree with someone and still work with them towards a common goal. Rather than criticizing and dividing, you could seek to understand and influence.

My political leanings are conservative. I wouldn't have voted for Obama in the election. I don't think his ultra-left tendencies will work well for everyone. But he is the President. He is charismatic. He is inspiring. He's mobilizing people on a scale the likes of which I've never seen. He has all the skills of a great leader and that's what people need most in a President.

I heard a great explanation of the progress that Obama represents. Dr. Joy Browne said on her radio show today that Barak Obama's election to the Presidency doesn't represent progress for the black people. They've always had it within them to become whatever they wanted to be, given the right circumstances. This represents progress for everyone else who, in electing Barak Obama President, have finally realized the right circumstances. It's not the end of racism. It's not the end of prejudice. It's not the end of division. It is an umprecedented step towards creating a colourblind and unified America.

I'm not an American. I don't agree with his politics. I think he lacks experience that could be valuable in the Presidency. I think there are a lot of things that make him a less than perfect President. And yet he still excites and inspires me. I'll support inspiration any day.

Obama did NOTHING extraordinary to get the presidency. He was CARRIED there by the adoring press, a nation's guilt, and people's desperation for "change."

I was in DC today and I can honestly say that most of the people there voted for Obama solely because he is black. So when people say they want "change", what they really mean is they want a different skin color on their President. It is absolutely ridiculous to assume that Obama's skin color automatically makes him the personification of change.

Truth be told, Obama's connection to the African community is flimsy at best so all this hooplah baffles me. His African father, whom he mentions all the time, wasn't exactly a fixture in his life. (Didn't he leave when Obama was 2...) And also, didn't Obama grow up in Hawaii and Indonesia? So kudos to Obama for dexterously maneuvering between races so that he could seem as black as possible when he needed to and as white as possible when that was necessary.

All Obama does is tell us the obvious, but with some soaring rhetoric. The real problem here is that Americans NEED the president to tell them something as basic as "pick yourself up" and "save your own ass."

Yes, today will go down in history. Perhaps as the day American's brought about positive change to the nation. Or perhaps, as a start of a series of events that reveals a grave mistake.

@hmmm

If i understood what you said here. So if i were to change the skin of my color, that would change the face of a country?

You have got to be kidding me. Have you really examined what is behind the face?

chad
who are you to say that this was not the goal of MLK Jr, especialy coming from the guy who says being the first african american president doesnt change anything? just so you know, MLK Jr. was planning on running for president, so its pretty fair to say that it was his goal. your 100% wrong about him being black wont change any serious issues, this is just as big (actually bigger) than if gay person were to ever take office (considering blacks were enslaved). and your telling me that if a gay person ever took office that you would preach that it doesnt matter because it doensnt change anything.

Folks, we are 1/2 of the way there. He is bi-racial, and that is just fine. However, let's not kid ourselves. This IS progress, but we aren't there yet. We also need to get to the point where folks don't vote for a candidate simply because of the color of his or her skin. Sadly, that wasn't the case in this election.

I wanted intellectual honesty during the election. During these difficult times (funny, hope and change didn't help the stock market today), we don't need an "American Idol" president. We need experience - but I guess that was too boring for some. I wasn't against change. I was ready for it. However, I like to know there is water in the "change pool" before I jump into it. It needs to be said - his skin color (and the apparent obsession with it) won't change anything. It might make some feel good about themselves, but by itself it will do nothing to change the serious issues that we face. Guilt is a powerful emotion, and one that some might like the cleanse themselves of. For example, Robert Byrd was a former KKK member - and Obama supporter. Is that true change (perhaps), or just readying one's self for the after-life? As a member of a mixed-couple, the whole thing just makes me sad. I'm confident that this wasn't the goal of MLK Jr.
