This *is* it.

I feel like I spend many of my days looking forward to tomorrow. The weekend. Potentially another summer in Toronto. Or Scotty Dynamo‘s visit in ten days. There’s good stuff on the horizon.

But none of it is truly any better than today. And none of it is promised. In the meantime, I glaze over much of what’s in front of me.

If you spend all your time looking forward, you miss out on the only thing that is real: the now. Similarly, if you spend all your time looking backwards, your entire life unfolds without you noticing or actively participating.

Few of us realize that “this is it”. Looking out my window on a frozen New England wonderland, I remind myself that this is what life is all about. It’s the bus rides, the time on the treadmill, the time folding clothes and taking a shower. Those moments that we spend daydreaming about other moments are the moments of life. And they are beautiful, perfect and humbling.

  1. I live in your tomorrow, literally, Besides the point I am here to combat your Cheerful Glee with my way of thinking so watchout, its blunt and boring.

And saying I live your tomorrow , is saying i read this when you post it on the 29th while on the 30th (I sound crazy like s**t obviously I would read it after its put out but) Living in Australia Im a Day ahead, right? Alright Im confused hah..

    • Living here in the western hemisphere, I always tell people “Why worry about tomorrow? It’s already tomorrow in Australia!” Let tomorrow worry about itself. Live for today. Peace.

    • I have had people comment on my blog the day before I have posted it.
Living in Australia makes life a lot of fun.

  2. Absolutely! Living in today, the here and now is the best gift we can give ourselves, and the people around us. We lose focus, on what is really important, we all suffer.

  3. I now feel like I should fold my laundry.

Truth is, I’m stuck in the past. Too busy catching up on all the excessive classwork. Worrying about the past. Feeling the weight of the wrongdoings in the past by people and how to this day it hurts me.

  4. It’s harder for certain people to accept this though. Many are caught up in trying to perfect their futures that they don’t realise that they’re ruining their present time, or just not living it to it’s full potential — not having fun, in other words. I believe that people like this need to take some time to not give a s**t, it’d really benefit them in many ways.

I’ve always liked your blogs because they have depth, and they aren’t just recaps of your day, they’re insightful little snippets of what you think of during the day. I enjoy it. :)

  6. ,,It was one of those days when it’s a minute away from snowing and there’s this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. And this bag was, like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. And that’s the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and… this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video’s a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember… and I need to remember… Sometimes there’s so much beauty in the world I feel like I can’t take it, like my heart’s going to cave in.” So thank you for sharing your part of the American Beauty, but trust me, you are not so original, like most of us actually. There is no time for re-inventing the wheel. Or maybe there is a time in man’s life, when it is necessary for him to stop, and look back to those moment’s in life, when something had to be done, or to the future, to see what must be done, and the finally to stop to the present, and do something.

    • I remember about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Now that is something that has no place in this discussion, but still, make’s someone wonder, about the time, and the place a human has in this world.

  7. Existing in the moment is truly one of life’s greatest challenges. Tomorrow is gone and there are no guarantees on tomorrow. This post is exactly what I needed today. Just for today…

    Ciao!

  8. well – i see what you’re saying and i agree mostly, but for those whose today isn’t exactly a walk in the park, tomarrow bring hope – at least there is something to dream about when today is not going so well – the goal is to make tomarrow – today!

  9. and who the hell is scoty dynamo – i live in europe – never heard of him here – but nik og jay are cool!

  10. This is the best post ever!!!

  11. Hey Davey,

For many of us we spend to much time focusing on the what if and what is going to happen tommorrow we should relax and sit back and live every day as if it were are last live for that day and enojy the moment of what that day has brought and worry about tommorrow, tommorrow but it is very hard to do this when you have a lot of thoughts running through your head all the time i know i write things such as this but I myself bearly ever follow em because I am so busy and my mind is always going a mile a minute and trying to juggle so many tasks with so little time to get everything done sometimes it gets very overwhelming when I think of what I have to get done from day to day.

Davey take care of yourself and have fun have a great night and a fantastic day tommorrow and I really enjoy watching your videos and looking at your pictures and reading what you have to say on this blog have fun and take care. Peace and Love.

  12. This is somewhat what I was thinking about today. It was a really long day for me in school, I gaze out the widow I start thinking about my past life. My past experience of moments that I charish and somethings that I dispise about myself. But I can’t think about things of what I did back then I should understand to do something now. Today, tomorrow, and the next day there will be something I could do that charish for the rest of my life, but as well continue to do some good for myself.

  13. What is this, is this it, What is it, is it this, If this is it, then you are it, I am it, we all are it, And what it is, might not be known, But what is known, Is that whatever it is, is the universe, It is everything.

    :)

  14. We just need to remember yesterday, think of today, and give the best wish to tomorrow

  15. Wow that’s nice how you put that Davey.

  16. Each day is a gift…that is why it is called the present!

  17. You need to learn from past experiences, creating future goals from the present

  19. Yes, this is it.
However, I do look forward to your next blog and then enjoy your thoughts, your wisdom, your humour and your sexy body. In that time I live for the moment.
My days are spent living in the now with an eye on the future. Anticipation can be a wonderful joy.

  20. Davey, what you really are is a Zen Buddhist. Sometimes you seem on the verge of satori.

  21. I became depressed when thinking about tomorrow. I can’t do anything about yesterday so I take it day by day. Today I may listen to music, watch a movie, go to the gym, the park, eat a favorite meal and talk to friends, etc. I can enjoy today. Tomorrow may never come anyway. This is the best way I’ve found to enjoy life.

  22. so true! thanks.

  23. You seem my zen master talking! :)
    Good day from Portugal!
