I originally titled this post Today is a Miracle, but I quickly realized that there is no such thing as today. The next 24-hours are neither promised nor real. There is only now; there is only this moment, and this moment is a miracle.
There is nothing “spectacular” on my agenda today. It is a normal Tuesday morning. I have a few hours of work ahead of me, followed by a visit to the gym. I’ll enjoy some time with my boyfriend and his family. I’ll eat a few meals. I’ll take a shower. I’ll sleep. All ordinary. And yet miraculous.
As I sit here and type, I recognize that there are infinite possibilities in this moment. I feel like the flute through which the music of the universe is playing. I can feel the very breath of God work through me.
An innumerable number of past moments had to come and go to make this moment possible. From the ashes of moments gone by, this present moment blossoms.
Sometimes, I think that we wait for the rare outwardly and obvious extraordinary and spectacular moments that are so few and far between: the vacations, the births, the marriages and commitment ceremonies. In doing so, we overlook the truth that this present moment is spectacular. It’s not about how we fill our moments that makes them so spectacular; this moment is intrinsically miraculous and great, whether you are scuba diving off the Gold Coast of Australia or commuting on an overcrowded train to a job that you despise.
I am thankful to be able to experience this moment, and it is my intention to be aware of the miracle that is now. Moreover, I intend to use this this moment to bring peace and love to this universe through my thoughts, words and actions.

If only I could have a week seeing through your eyes. I’d probably wind up being a much happier person.

Sean, the historical Buddha said something to the effect that “with our thoughts we create the world.” So, you can have your own version of Davey’s experience just by carefully choosing where you focus your thoughts and which ones you choose to believe.

Thank you God for my eyes that see color and shapes and my heart that continues to work steadily and my hands to make things. Thank you for this moment.

That we love and can be loved. That is a miracle. Now go out there and do a “drive by” hug.
