What if we reminded ourselves of three things today?
- People are doing the best they know how to do, given the circumstances in their life. The choices or actions of other people are the only choices or actions they could have made given where they are in life – whether or not you agree with those choices. If their choices invite turmoil into their life, remember that difficult situations allow people to develop and grow. All paths lead to truth, but alas, some are much longer than others.
- It takes two to tango. Conflict can’t be brought into your life without your participation; if you respond with love, peace, compassion and understanding, your life will be free from conflict. Conflict grows when you nurture it with the fertilizers of violence, energy or hate, and withers when you respond with your heart.
- It’s all small stuff. Remind yourself of the wisdom contained within my favorite quote ever… it’s from the Ojibway people: “Now and then I go about pitying myself and all the while my soul is being blown by great winds across the sky.” The so called problems, issues and difficult situations in our lives pale in comparison to the love and beauty of this tremendous universe. On which will you focus your energy today?

June 26, 2008 at 8:09 am
Profound. Truly.
June 26, 2008 at 8:18 am
Wonderful reminder.
We forget it is all about the small stuff. I think we spend too much time focused on the negative and not the positive.
I just did a post about spending less time looking to quit bad habits and rather spend your time adding good habits.
We need to realize, as you have said so many times before, we are able to create the lives we live. We just have to remind ourselves we have the right to change what we don’t like so we can be happier.
June 26, 2008 at 8:21 am
Essential reminders for us all, and each allows room for change and progress in each life.
Very cool Dave, an excellent post today!
Ciao – J
June 26, 2008 at 8:28 am
#3 is the most important for me. In addition to opening my eyes wider to see the beauty and wonder of the bigger picture, I also need to remind myself that whatever my gripe or complaint is, there are so many others worse off than me.
Yes, sometimes my “small stuff” is very real, and significant for me—but I am so blessed overall. I have a debilitating physical condition, but I have good medical care, insurance, and my condition isn’t terminal. So many others can’t say the same.
I don’t live in a war zone. My home hasn’t been flooded out. I have the privilege of voting for our next president. I have friends and loved ones nearby and others connected by the wonder of the computer.
Don’t get me wrong–I’m not a totally enlightened person who just naturally appreciates what I have and the glory of the universe, etc. I bitch and moan and get distracted by small s**t all the time.
But I try every day to get past that.
Thank you, Davey, for another thoughtful reminder!
Peace.
June 26, 2008 at 8:51 am
Once we ‘ve embraced the view that it is all “small stuff’” ; to realize the nexus of life and a positive attitude is a revelation that comes to some, sooner than later. But, when it does come, one of the keys to a happy earthly life will be realized.Excellent, concise post today. Peace.
June 26, 2008 at 9:21 am
wow Davey…damn good thoughts. It hits home.
Very intellectual and thought out. In my life I have had to pull back on conflicts and allow for peace to come to my soul.
I know we don’t agree on this point, but I do give credit to our Lord. But we are also enlighten by our parent, friends, lovers and enviroment.
Thank you for your rich article today…very good.
Love
Mike

Mike
June 28, 2008 at 6:03 am
dd…why did you leave me? Will we not ever speak again, will we not sit on the hill over looking Dodge and wonder “what if”, will we not send nasty little notes to each other telling each that if our mothers had treated us right we would now be hetersexual serving in the main hall of Congress.
I regress, but I love you DD and want you to be my husband, wife and or want of a better word, suck buddy.
Or please come home DD, i pee’ed in the shower last night and I know that Davey Wavey is going to write another article on the subject and people will come to my home and castigate me.
I need your help fending them off.
Buddy, I miss you and want to have sex with you. I am so horny today…Please Please call me on my cell phone number. Forget Eric and remember who brough you into this world.
Love and kisses.

ALTHO I am a happy practicing gay white male [21], I have two twin girl friends whom I have grown very fond of! their names are Sere’n'Dipity and they are truly beautiful and remarkable young ladies and deserving of my greatest and profound respect! ‘Sere’ is the more obvious of the two, she is very seductive and apparent and a right-in-your-face kind of apparition: Seek her out and there she is. Then there is the other twin, ‘Dipity’, who is very secretive, and coy, and a total surprise when she suddenly makes her appearence, she transpires out of nowhere and you cannot help but giving her your complete amazement and wonderment and her suggesting there may be a higher power at work far beyond our understanding. We have all experienced these two and will never cease marvelling after their antics and handy-works!
Quotations pertaining to Sere’n'Dipity:
1. “In the field of observation, chance favours only the prepared mind.” Loius Pasteur
2. “I find that a great part of the information I have acquired by looking up something and finding something else on the way.” [Franklin P. Adams 1881-1960]
3. “Serendipity. Look for something, find something else, and realize that what you’ve found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for.” Lawrence Block
4. “The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discovers, is not ‘Eureka!’ but “That’s funny…’”
5. “Serendipity is the faculty of finding things we did not know we were looking for.” Glauco Ortolano[2008]
So when my twin girlfriends make a visit, remember Dwight “David” and his warning, GOD is alive and Netzsche [1833-1900] is dead. g’dday. maties! [S.V.W.]
June 26, 2008 at 9:27 am
so… stay focused?
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (what a name) would agree, i think. He wrote a book called “Flow”. Amazing!

June 26, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Hey I love your blog and like being reminded of the simple ways to look at thing to make your life a happy one. I loved your entries from BAs, my partner of 10 years is from Buenas Aires and we have been there about 6 times so I could relate to alot of what you wrote.
June 26, 2008 at 12:21 pm
“All paths lead to truth” – I like that.
June 26, 2008 at 6:25 pm
If my memory serves me correctly some one shouted out, “you couldn’t stand the truth! [Cruz & Nichols, maybe] oh yes I can try me!
June 26, 2008 at 6:35 pm
hey, Dwight “David”, be informed before going public: [S.V.W.] Tom Cruise & and Jack Nicholson
” A Few Good Men!” there ya go buddy!
June 26, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I don’t believe that all paths lead to “truth”. Considering the society we live in today, we live in a world full of lies and deceit. There is some truth, but usually stretched and misrepresented.
That’s my opinion anyways.
June 27, 2008 at 12:03 am
hhhmm! “We both have truths, are yours the same as mine”? further analysis needed on that subject-matter. Happy pathways to you!Truth & Freedom are out there someplace and when you least expect them, bingo, you’re a winner! they will make you laugh & cry at the same time! a paradox for everyone!
June 26, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Nice. It’s interesting that so many of us respect your wisdom. We’re all so different, yet the same.
You are infused with the wisdom of the ages…
Be proud of what you are doing, you deserve to be. T.

Always, Thanks for asking. Live in magnificent Charleston Historic District. Slow paced but easy to be happy…
Never been to Dallas, still a great city?
June 27, 2008 at 5:06 pm
hot in the summer, but a nice city. would love to see the Historical district. Have you lived there long?
June 27, 2008 at 9:27 pm
Mike, almost a year and a half. Historic district is unrivaled in the US, my opinion. Keep a country house as well, a bit cooler. True Charlestonian style…
June 28, 2008 at 6:05 am
hope to see the Historic district..I am a Civil War buff.
June 26, 2008 at 12:55 pm
how great it makes a person feel to be wanted and needed, Thank you, Davey-Wavey, strange but true, the sparrow needs GOD and GOD needs the sparrow!
June 26, 2008 at 7:53 pm
hi DD..you are so correct…How are you doing today…Hope you are having a good day.

hope to hear from you.
Mike
June 26, 2008 at 11:45 pm
thanks! things aren’t as nifty as you might think, there is a price to be paid for being a “smart-ass” all the time! be careful with your motivation “self-revelation” can provide a surprise or two! dealing with that now! thanks again bon voyage et bonne chance!
June 27, 2008 at 4:49 am
DD…sorry to hear thing are not going well.
DD you are smart and people need to be challenged on this blog. Davey writes excellent articles but we need to discuss and you do a great job of getting others on the blog to open up and give opinions. To be involved.
For that I am gratefull.
I hope that you will continue as you are. You are not hurting anyone with your comment and opinions.
Please continue to be yourself and Davey blog will grow and grow and then I will get a new boy friend and we will live happily ever after.
Love
Mike

June 26, 2008 at 5:32 pm
“The Small Stuff”.
It’s the best and the worst of our lives, and is everything and nothing to us I guess.
It never goes away and that’s the blessing of it – no matter how great or poor it makes us feel, we always have the chance to make more of it!
June 26, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Well said Grasshopper. I think everyone can relate to these.
June 26, 2008 at 9:36 pm
hmm.
I understand where these quotes are coming from and what they mean, but I had to think about the first paragraph for a while because it’s hard to recognize someones “best” if their “best” isn’t equal to yours, or at least it is for me.
Do I make sense?
I sort of confused myself.
=P
June 27, 2008 at 7:00 am
I remember recently explaining to a fervent heterosexual friend who insisted he had never masterbated in his life what the procedure was and just how to do it! I remember the look on his face questioning; You’ve been doing this since you were 13-14 years old! then, “who taught you how to do it?” well, you can imagine my consternation: who taught me to do what? He soon was going at full throttle and then arching his back, displaying total abandonment and restrain, uttering a muffled cry of pleasure he emptied his seminal reservoir randomly around the room, falling back into momentary unconsciousness! my disbelief and curiosity haunts me to this day, did I do the right thing, what did I cause, have I participated in the sexual “ruination” of an other “purpose-seeker”, what will become of me when I am too old! more later, there is always more later!lol
June 27, 2008 at 10:17 am
oh,oh,oh, there is the kicker, or punch line, he asked if I enjoyed it! I really wasn’t a participant, a collaborator, an instigator in this deed, but the victim of someone needing an audience to confirm his commitment to an alternate lifestyle!
June 27, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I’m sort of lost?
Nice story though.
=]
June 28, 2008 at 5:14 am
hhhmmm! if the shephard is lost imagine the confusion of the sheep! I say let’s get the flock out of here, shephard and all!
June 28, 2008 at 6:09 am
dd..did he get c*m all over him self..why did you just sit there and watch? did you not want to put your love muscle to work?
Watch out Mitchell, dd will slowing work inself into your heart.
June 28, 2008 at 2:44 pm
What if you were a married practicing heterosexual male and you have a nice gay friend [you just like the guy] and you are tolerant and broad-minded, but you have scruples and principles in your relationship with your wife. is it possible the above described scenario could come to pass if you had affection for both parties! stranger than fiction?
June 28, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Dwight must always have scruples and principles in deal with your friends. This is such a rare event that I would find my self in much gratitute for it to happen.
You must respect all parties and keep your trust among all parties.
peace out
