As I mentioned before, my friend Joey is in town. He’s visiting from New Jersey, so we decided it would be fun to spend the day at the beach. I brought my camera along, and snapped a few pictures to share with you:

Afterwards, we headed up North to Rhode Island’s capital, Providence. Throughout the summer, Providence puts on a series of events called Waterfire. During the Waterfire, black boats filled with people in dark clothing travel up the Providence River igniting floating campfires. Performers and mimes and magicians line the streets, meanwhile Enya music is pumped out from speakers lining the river. It all becomes quite hypnotic.
The combination of water and fire is very beautiful, and very yin and yang. It’s all very “unity in duality.” If Deepak Chopra was there, he’d remind us that everything contains its opposite. Here are some pictures:

I love the last picture. It’s a snapshot from a huge collection of tiles that the children of Providence put together as a memorial to September 11. What a wise child.

The ending quote is so powerful. When you need love the most and sometimes when you feel you have it the least. It is then you need to believe the most.

Waterfire sounds looks way cool. I’ll have to check it out on my planned trip’s itinerary in the next few days. But, Manhattan calls first. Peace.

I remember waterfire! seems so long ago…

I went to the first WATERFIRE last week. Definitely puts you on another level…but anyways…back to lurking!

And for all of you Rhode Island newbies, I CREATED waterfire. Well OK, it happened while I was Mayor. Or my namesake at least.
Go to Providence and see it and stay at the Masonic Temple hotel, it’s a Renaissance. No better hotel in New England.

Davey certainly has a “type”. Joey looks like another dark haired guy who appears on talky blogs. Or is it just me?
May 31, 2008 at 6:57 pm
There is a definite look going on amongst 3-4 or more of the guy’s he’s been seen with on here.

David,
No beach for me this weekend, bad weather, so i wish i was there to appreciate Waterfire. We haven’t such events here.
So, it’s party at nights in Providence for you, i shall have loved to see that.
Have much fun with your friend Joey.

Nice photos again Davey – what beach? – where’s the sand? Looks great though and the Waterfire looks fun.
Does anybody else think that Joey looks a little like Will? And he looks so young too.
May 31, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Sometime back, Davey said something about liking them Young.

You look so healthy with your tan and glow. Was the glow from the sun or Joey??? Yes Davey does have a type. Wonder if Will and Joey have been at Davey’s at the same time??? Interesting thought.

Wow, what a great day you had! Looks like a lot of fun and the shots of the night time were really cool.
Definitely a very smart kiddo!
Much love on a wonderful Saturday evening!

Waterfire is just one of the many great thing Rhode Island has to offer. It may be the smallest state in the country but I go there because it feels so homey.. I have made more friends from New Jersey in Rhode Island then I have IN Jersey itself. I try to enjoy WaterFire at least once a year .. ohh and one or two of the great resturantes there !!
