Today, I went to Casa Loma – one of Toronto’s must-see destinations. It’s a huge, old mansion that took 300 men three years to complete. The gardens were out of this world.

On the way home, I found a small, corner Greek diner. I literally had the best meal of my life: chicken souvlaki, a Greek salad and homefries. I much prefer a cheap, greasy dive than a fancy meal. This place was right up my alley. See picture below:

On the way home, I got caught up in a street festival in Toronto’s Little Italy.
Best day of my life.

I love that your photo actually shows the street names for the diner. Have always wondered about the food in that place.

What intersection is that? Bathurst and…?
August 31, 2008 at 7:15 pm
I just want to say to everyone that I am sorry you have to put up with the “other mike” and his callous comments. I do not know what his purpose here is, but I will do my best to try to ignore him (though that won’t be easy). Maybe you all should too.
August 31, 2008 at 7:25 pm
All I know is, I check out for a couple of days and I come back to find there’s this other person
calling themselves MIke in Dallas.
I want the real deal…not some 2 bit wannabe.
August 31, 2008 at 7:32 pm
I may be an ass sometines, but I just can’t help it. Maybe I have some neurological disorder from syphillis I caught from a prostitute.

August 31, 2008 at 7:40 pm
I am vexed and nonplussed.
August 31, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Yes, this is a bit bizarre, but pretty fuckin hilarious too.
Old beautiful Mike, sorry about the syphillis.
August 31, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Go away fraudulent douche bag !
August 31, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Douche bag can refer to the rinsing of any body cavity but usually applies to vaginal irrigation, rinsing of the vagina. A douche bag is a piece of equipment for douching: a bag for holding the water or fluid used in douching (the term douche bag can also be used as an insult). To avoid transferring intestinal bacteria into the vagina, the same bag must not be used for a vaginal douche and an enema.
Screw you Steve
your an idiot
August 31, 2008 at 9:04 pm
This is bizarre.
August 31, 2008 at 9:48 pm
And inappropriate. Go away fraudulent Mike. Oh and screw you.
August 31, 2008 at 9:49 pm
And a lot of gross.
August 31, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Is this a joke for sport or a case of schizophrenia?
August 31, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Not sure Jimmy. It’s a shame.
DAVEY, CAN YOU BLOCK THE FRAUDULENT MIKE ? PLEASE.
August 31, 2008 at 10:28 pm
The fraud should be required to use a different name.
August 31, 2008 at 11:00 pm
As I said, I am sorry.
It would probably be best if he was ignored.

August 31, 2008 at 11:28 pm
I don’t even know who the hell you are!
I’m going to finish my martini, take a vicodin, and go to bed.
I feel so used.
September 1, 2008 at 8:03 am
I thought you liked being used!
September 1, 2008 at 10:01 pm
Well Steve, it depends on who is doing the using!
Interested?
August 31, 2008 at 7:17 pm
I love the little “mom and pop” eateries too. I have found that the cuisine is much more authentic to the region. And without all the fuss.
August 31, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Oh your lucky, I wish I lived in Toronto, but Chicago is still a good place to live. That reminded me when you said about the garden in the Casa loma, reminded me of Jardin du Luxembourg garden in Paris when I went there in a holiday, ooh its pulchritudinous to see it. I never had Greek food before, but I dont like really eating outside, safe & healthy when eating the food that your mum makes you,Haha.Well its nice that you had a great day today. Cheers!!!
August 31, 2008 at 7:29 pm
pulchritudinous, really?
Maybe look up pedantic
August 31, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Adrian, I have never been to Toronto, but I know that Chicago is beautiful too, and has many great places to eat. I know.
lol

September 1, 2008 at 10:13 am
Jimmy and guys
This is mike in Dallas that loves DD and got into an argument with you and Rambo some time ago.
Not much I can do about this other person.
I will be off line for about 1 week and will not reply to any comments. I have been so busy at work that I don’t really have time to put up with this.
Crossing The Bar by Lord Alfred Tennyson
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
I will read replies but will not repond.
hope to hear from you Jimmy.

Mike,
May you have Peace in your labors and the ripest of fruit upon your vines.
September 9, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Hey “Mike in Dallas”
Jus a quick note to say thanks for quoting those lines from ALT. It brought me back some 20 years to when I was a teenager, and to Evensong (a service of the Anglican church, for those of you who may not be familiar with it) on a particular Sunday evening – I can actually visualise it and when I first herad the strains of the music to which it was set – so hauntingly beautiful. Unfortunately I have lost the music and my old music teacher who was the church organist is long dead. Nevertheless, the words are still beautiful and carry the same enchanting images, if you let your imagination wander!
My fathers ashes are being interred later this year, after his remains are returned from the Medical School to which he donated them. I had wondered what piece of poetry I could read at this ceremony, that would be meaningful. My question has been answered!
Cheers man

wait a minute – mike you already used Tennyson in an earlier blog … is this a test? and I think you included a long literary analysis of the poem. Is there a message you are trying to give to us?
Davey, love the house. You’ll miss it when you go back to Rhode Island! (if you go back, maybe you will marry and immigrate????)
btw why the pictures of the stables, is there a stable boy fantasy looming?
September 1, 2008 at 12:16 pm
did you like the secret staircase in the master bedroom? useful….
September 1, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Casa Loma was one of my favorite place when I was in Toronto. Will have to go visit again. Nice photos.
September 1, 2008 at 8:48 pm
That’s cool… but… wait a minute! That’s MY summer home!
=P
September 6, 2008 at 2:50 pm
it looks like a beatiful place to visit on of these days
September 7, 2008 at 10:22 am
Casa Loma looks like a Disney Plan to me. Can you imagine washing all those windows and doing the housework. But all those corners and passageways and nooks and crannies evoke all sorts of possibilities for porno flics. Hmmm…maybe I’ll check it out one day. But I really prefer Montreal to Toronto anyday.
On the matter of Greek food and things Greek in general: ‘parakhalo’ (thanks) for the reminder of the One civilization that respected the love between people of the same sex. As a kid, Greeks had always been a passion for me; especially, those images on their dishes and amphoras of naked guys boinking. Maybe it’s my thing for foreskins? I used to look at all the photos in the Greek art books of the naked men just to see other c***s like mine. Oh well, Yasou!
Be well,
