Today, I ate my dessert before my dinner. Dessert is the best part of the meal. So why save it until the end when you’re already full? Nothing is promised; tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. When it comes to dessert, I think we got it all wrong.

April 22, 2009 at 7:40 pm

April 22, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Yum.
April 22, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Do you like key lime pie? cause i do, also flan then strawberry shortcake always chocolate
April 22, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Actually, it’s funny that you say that! Research has shown that having fruit-based deserts about 15 minutes BEFORE your dinner actually helps to settle the stomach and digest the meal better. So yes, as you said, “When it comes to dessert, I think we got it all wrong.” =D

April 23, 2009 at 1:09 pm

April 22, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Well a triple Amen to that! I love chocolate and strawberry shortcake, a well as cheesecake drizzled with chocolate and raspberry sauce, triple layer pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese icing. Love your attitude!!!
April 22, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Holla back now
April 22, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I totally agree!!! I can perfectly ignore the “meal” and have only the dessert! I like it better, it’s usually more beautiful… =]
April 22, 2009 at 10:17 pm
what happened to the big banana dessert? well I see you are still into the cream
April 22, 2009 at 11:24 pm
that looks delicious.
pretty jealous right now.
April 22, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I usually do the same because sugars are simple carbs and they are absorbed at a really fast rate. It gives me energy when I’m eating the main dish
April 22, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Well, if we always ate dessert first then what would we have to look forward to afterward. If we always gave our body what we wanted as opposed to what we needed then we’d over indulge. i agree that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, that’s prevalent in day to day life but if we don’t work up to something (i.e. dinner before dessert) then it’s not nearly as appreciated
April 23, 2009 at 12:36 am
Yeah don’t the germans eat dessert first? also LOVES the Audrey Hepburn painting!!!!
April 23, 2009 at 1:19 am
Nop, but indians (those who live in India) do.

April 23, 2009 at 6:26 am

It’s a good thing You work out 6 times a week!
April 23, 2009 at 6:51 am
Davey Wavey would be MY choice for dessert!
Yum Yum!
joey
April 23, 2009 at 6:55 am
Funny, that’s exactly what I’ve done yesterday with my dessert.
Lately, I experienced that taking immediately the best part of what is given to me must not to be considered a big sin. It is not impatience either. I mean I don’t want to lose too much time and when I see a good thing I know I can reach and take the best of it,there is no room for hesitation.
Love is one of these things. One never knows what tomorrow will be!
bye,
April 23, 2009 at 6:55 am
This is really a slap in the face to us diabetics how insensitive can you be? “Wink”
I allow myself one dessert about once every three months and I make up for it by not eating any other carbs in that meal. But when I do it I eat it first and really enjoy it. I try to include fruit in the dessert because fructose is slower in converting to glucose than regular sugar. And I try to use Splenda Sucrose to sweeten which is not a suger. But you guys with normal pancreases go for it. But watch out for the boogie diabetes man. It ain’t no fun.
April 23, 2009 at 7:52 am
Looks like I’m the odd one out, I don’t eat my sweets first….and I said it because unlike many, I have no need to agree with Davey every time he says something … (cynical me, lol)
Since it is the best part of the meal I MAKE sure I am not already full by the time I get to it, moderation, that’s the name of the game.
I like to save the best till last and have sweets with my strong (not instant) coffee, mmmmm sweets’n'coffee…mmmmmm best ever.
April 23, 2009 at 7:59 am
The dessert look delicious as you do! I’d eat the fruit but not all the extra. Diabetic issues sigh! I like the no indies effect too
April 23, 2009 at 8:06 am
I had a nutritionist tell me that the fat proteins in dessert will help the body absorb the vitamins and minerals from our main dish– so, there is some evidence why we should indulge our sweet tooth immediately. Although -Im a chips and salsa guy myself.
April 23, 2009 at 8:57 am
Great photo!
April 23, 2009 at 9:05 am
How can you honor your body with those chemicals and high fructose corn syrup? I cannot eat anything like that anymore, knowing what chemicals are in them. and also it goes right to my waist
The strawberries are good tho.
April 23, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Well I believe all chemicals and corn syrup are great in moderation. We must all indulge in things like this at least sometimes. I agree with Davey. Dinner sometimes gets boring, and dessert is always great. Why can’t we all eat some sweets, and Davey looks pretty nice if you ask me, he keeps himself in great condition. I have found that I have to walk a few miles a day, and exercise on a daily basis, or my weight gets out of control,so I just eat what I like after a good healthy meal and go for a walk. Well it works great for me. Hey you are not at all wrong about making unhealthy choices, that is not great, but even though Davey looks much better than his dessert I guess he takes care of his body, so he deserves a good dessert before his dinner. Have a great day, Louie
April 23, 2009 at 9:27 am

April 23, 2009 at 10:37 am
It is said that the French eat their dessert before their dinner. So might as well do as the French do in this case….dessert first. I’ve got French ancestry, so might as well make the most of it.
April 23, 2009 at 11:31 am
I perfer the sweeter things in life, so AMEN I ALWAYS have my desserts 1st
April 23, 2009 at 11:51 am
Mmm, sweet…
April 23, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Hey there Davey, Maybe next time you can get a close up on the dessert sitting on a table. The dessert took no cover in that picture. You look great, you keep looking like that and eat how you like. It sure did not hurt. I see the beauty within, and on the outside with you. All I have to say is keep up the good work and you will get your just desserts. Have a good day, Louie
April 23, 2009 at 2:34 pm
you just discovered this?
i always eat it first, always (you need a bit more cream on that shortcake too), then i have my steak or pork chop, or lamb loin steak…orrr, fish dish, and then a salad.
April 23, 2009 at 9:15 pm
haha I completely agree.
“Life’s too short, eat dessert first.”
April 23, 2009 at 10:38 pm
My favorite dessert would be Davey drizzled with some chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
April 24, 2009 at 5:27 am
You are my dessert Davey!!!
April 24, 2009 at 6:27 am
As a physician..eating this before dinner is a bad idea. Funny how the last blog was about honoring your body and then followed by this.
His dessert is full of preservatives and eating REGULARLY like this will cause cancer, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, need I go on?
Not smart. Your body need healthy nutrients to function. Dont fill yourself up on corn syrup and preservatives!
April 24, 2009 at 6:39 am
Golly, you’re kidding, right? Give him a break!
Food is made for a reason, buddy! And let me give you a hint… it’s got something to do with appreciating the capacity of a the taste-buds on our tongues.
It’s only excessive consumption of desserts that cause those negative side-effects.
April 24, 2009 at 10:25 am
I’m pretty sure that this blog post was intended to be a metaphor for the pleasures in life, and not a literal push to eat dessert, not in moderation.
Preservatives are the least of your worries if you are regularly eating a rich, creamery and fatty dessert *drool*
Besides… ‘dessert’ doesn’t exclusively = cheesecake and ice-cream… why not a fruit salad or low-fat yoghurt, banana and blackberry smoothie? That would be my preferred option any day =D
Peace.
April 24, 2009 at 7:30 am
