My latest health update.

Because I’ve received many emails asking about my health, I wanted to follow up with another update.

Last week, I went in for my pre-colonoscopy consultation. My colonoscopy is scheduled for Monday, and as such, I will have to abstain from solid fluids starting Sunday morning. For someone that eats as much as I do, this will be no small feat!

I’m actually excited for the fast. I’ve never fasted, and have always been quite curious about it. With my intense workout schedule, fasting has never made sense from a performance perspective – so this will be a new experience for me. I’m looking forward to a day of jello and cranberry juice.

The possibility of colon cancer still lingers, though it is just one of many possible diagnoses. Luckily, the colonoscopy will help the doctors identify my ailment and figure out the best path for treatment. This path may or may not interfere with my trip to Australia, but I am going to move forward as planned. Besides, I’ve already purchased my tickets and lodging.

In the meantime, I want to thank you for your support, good energy and thoughts.

  2. Davey,

I’m fairly new to your blog, but have read so much of it in the last few days. I’m a senior nursing student in Canada, and so health stuff really peaks my interests. I wish you the best. Stay motivated and stay strong, though I have no doubt in my mind that you will. You’ve become a huge source of inspiration in my own life, and I’d really like to thank you for that. You’re steadfastly positive, and have such an interesting perspective on life. It’s very refreshing.

So, to wrap it up, thank you so much. Sending well wishes and good energy your way.

    Kindest Regards,
    A

  4. I saw a specialist in Newport Beach, Ca. It was in the mid to late 80′s. He said, “Congratulations. You are officially the first patient to utilize this new technology I’m considering purchasing. All your fees will be waived if you let this film crew proceed with this historical moment for a documentary only to be seen by some in certain medical communities. He then handed me a clip board with a waiver that I signed immediately. He added ” You’re lucky as this procedure can be done in my office, eliminating an expensive hospital stay in nearby Hoag Memorial (famously expensive and inefficient in those days) They did a video tape of my colon using the latest fiber optic technology and equipment equipment. I was able to view the whole thing on the monitor. When they stopped at what I told them appeared to be a rye seed from an errant piece of toast the doctor laughed and said it was doubtful that that was a rye seed but it was of little concern none the less, but the whole thing seems to be inflamed because of excessive redness. I was later diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome a disease which has no cure but usually effective treatment. I used Metamucil, but Konsyl proved better albeit harder to find and more expensive.I latter had to take a test with a beryllium enema, many years later with a different doctor which was a waste of time.I did receive a phone call from the late doctors wife and had to inform her that all charges are waived and it’s even on a documentary tape. I received no further calls nor a copy of the tape as I was promised before and then.I recently have little problems with bowels and a whole host of things with the loss of 60lbs due to a low glucose low sugar diet. Hope that helps and good luck. I was uninsured at that time and just happen to luck out. His less than 10 min. consultation fee was over $600 about 30 years ago which my friends also were billed for being uninsured as well. For those people who believe that the Nation doesn’t need a plan haven’t a clue, but they have money to waste, or probably adequate insurance. In any case I know of and knew then millionaires even billionaires that would balk at such fees, even given that specialist was considered at the very top of his field. Good luck Davey. I hope this helps.

  5. I have had the pleasure of two colonoscopies now and can only assure you that the prep is the worst part. The twilight state I was in during the procedure was perfect and I have virtually no recollection of the procedure itself (which is fine with me). So, hang in there. I look forward to reading about the details but, on this one, I can probably do without the pictures (though I venture you have a particularly lovely colon). Cheers.

  6. of all the things i know for sure, one thing that i DEFFINANTLY know for sure, a world without davey wavey, is a sad world, long live davey wavey

  7. Best wishes Davey. You’ll be in my thoughts tomorrow.

As for the fasting, Google Eat, Stop, Eat. It looks like a commercialized website, but it is actually full of good info.

Good luck again. You have the best medicine of all on your side: a positive outlook. Nothing is strong enough to overcome that!

  8. Good luck! I had a colonoscopy about five years ago and was suposed to get one every year after that but never did. I’ve been a vegetarian for a third of a century and some think that makes it less likely that I will get cancer, mostly I just didn’t have the time for the hassle of it so I never got another one.

  9. Good luck! Much love :)

  10. do as what the doctor have told you to do :) wish you all the best ok <3
