Well this is it! It’s time for me to say farewell to New York City. My bags are packed – and in just a few minutes, I’ll be turning in my keys and heading to sunny, sandy (and quieter!) Rhode Island.
NYC sure lived up to its reputation; my two month trip was anything but dull. I ate a lot. Spent time with some close friends. Saw so many beautiful things. Reconnected with classmates. And spent an entire month living with my long-distance Canadian boyfriend.
This trip was different for me: It was more about people and relationships and less about the destination. It worked out well.
It was also a productive two months for me, the fruits of which you’ll see in less than a week. Hint, hint. Allocating time to work amidst all the play (though to be honest, my work feels like play, too) wasn’t always easy with so many distractions.
And now I’m off again. And though my physical belongings, shorts and undies fit into two small suitcases, the memories and experiences that I’ve created in the last 60 days could fill an entire lifetime. Maybe even two.
In case you’re keeping track, Rhode Island is the next stop for a week. Then a treehouse in NH for three weeks. Then, I’ll be heading out to west coast for a few days to present at a Google workshop for nonprofits. And then back to Rhode Island in the fall – with a stint in Korea, perhaps. Nomadic me.
But hey, I’ll be taking it one small step at a time. Enjoying each moment along the way.

I cannot fathom packing my life into 2 small suitcases. I suppose that my tendency to keep everything that holds any sentimentality doesn’t help, but I am not sure I could even fit my life into 2 uhaul trucks! Best wishes as you travel, DW.

Davey, Enjoy you next adventure,I was very moved by your coming out to Grandma video,I think it would make a good and inspiring vid-blog if you could spend a week with her to see how you answer the questions she is bound to have and how you can help her dispel the stereotypes and negative things she has heard over a lifetime. Davey,
Ah, Rhode Island is such a FINE PLACE to get back to! New York City, or, even more so, “Chicago, Chicago, that toddling town”) are fine for the contrast, but Rhode Island is the place for the heart and the hearth (though I can think of cities and towns in R.I. that I prefer to Providence!).
But, better than all of these is ANYWHERE in Canada, and, for you, all the more so to be united with your cute Canadian boyfriend not just on holidays but all of the time!
