._. no comment. i just have to say that most people are superficial so they only care what their body looks like and not their face. or some people think that having washboard abs are a feat to be enjoyed like “i am man see my abs?” having no washboard abs myself i cannot take a picture of myself. it may be the 12 year old in me saying i dont want my picture taken but im not photogenic….((off topic now xD)) yeah people only care about their looks. it is the looks that attract us and the personality that makes us stay.

With a body like the one you’ve got, Davey, who needs to see your head? (Nah, I don’t really mean that!)

Guys will reveal themselves as gay when they are ready themselves to do so, Davey, not when you want them to do so (which is right this very minute). Keep that in mind, though it does not do harm to remind them that they do not have to live in that cramped closet. It may not be good for a gay boy, teen, or man to come out too soon. He should be ready when he comes out. (Of course, surprises can out someone, like the magasines with photos of buck naked males in them that Mama or Daddy, or Little (Big) Brother finds under your bed or between the mattress and box springs of the bed!)

I think people that don’t post pics are rather gut-less… if they are scared of someone at work seeing them, chances are that person from work is on there for the same reason… I dont know of any HR department that scans gaydar, manhunt, dudesnude before giving you a job…

and to be honest, if you don’t post a face pic and you get knocked back by someone that doesn’t like your face, well tough… thats the risk you take… if you do put it up, you may not get as many hits/winks/msgs/pokes but you know the ones you get are from people that have judged and you have passed their interest test… because really… we all judge on some level, anyone that says they don’t at all, is kidding themselves…

so yea… show your faces… you’ll be pleasantly surprised that the responses you get

I don’t blame the people for not posting their face. The majority of people aren’t physically attractive to everyone so the reasoning behind it probably to ‘catch’ the largest audience without deterring any attention.

I don’t think it’s the greatest thing, nor do I agree with it; but I certainly can understand the pressures and superficialities in gay-culture, and can see how it drives people to act in such a way. If you aren’t perfect, then you aren’t anything…

Faceless profiles are such a turn-off, but I agree that it’s a balance between online openness and privacy. I’ve found sunglass pics to be the happy medium. Everyone looks good in shades (no backfires yet, haha)

dear davide – yes, breaktheillusion is a wonderful site, but it’s not in any way in the same category as grindr, et al – those are sites designed to be hook-up sites, and nothing more, and as i say, i believe they have their place in the great scheme of things. if they’re not your style, then i totally respect that. i agree with you that the site davey has created here is a friendly, fun, spiritual, and issues-oriented place, and like you, i visit it daily and love it madly; but to compare grindr to breaktheillusion is really an apples-and-oranges situation! love, jonathan L

They do that because of the shame they feel for being on those sites in the first place. They know that most guys are there for casual encounters and it brings them shame. I always feel for the headless ones because I was once a headless homosexual. I was filled with shame and embarrassment at the possibility that someone I actually know might find me there. It didn’t matter that if they found me on that site then they are obviously fine with it – its because we cover our faces to hide from the shame that our lies have brought on to us. Being proud is a journey and I hope everyone can get to the point to show their faces…if not to us…then at least be able to look at yourself in the mirror and not feel ashamed for what you do in your private life.

That’s why I sensed it and not stated that it was judgemental.
It’s an assumption that the headless masses are not honest and do not love themselves enough. A face pic is not “the only way” to be honest with yourself. Out and proud is not “better” than secretively in the closet. It’s a choice, consciously or unconsciously.

Jonathan-I did wanted to tell you another thing. I did belong to grindr about 4 or 5 days about a year or two ago. I really thought it was a gay networking site, where other gays talk and vent. What I found out was this “Hey dude you’re hot can I see your dick” “send a picture of your dick” over and over again or “is that really you?” or “Hey man I live in ohio lets hook up” More than a couple got totally obsessed with me. Kinda wigged me out. Left grindr. That is why I come here, this site has a little class and rarely of the other crap that plagues so many sites. Us gay guys can actually come here voice our opinions (in my case piss off a bunch of guys)and leave. This site has a higher standard not so much because who owns it but the type of guys who come here. Websites such at breaktheillusion. com does serve a valuable purpose, even if we sometimes disagree. If I want to have a hook up–I’d go get a hook-up–go to a gay bar–but then my boyfriend would kill me. Grindr and such is nothing more than places were other guys can give out pictures of their own dicks, balls asses or whatever and get others in exchange. All it is. Why guys just hand out nude pictures of themselves I don’t get–but whatever. grazie–take care

Jonathan-I understand what you are saying I get it…but in reality many gay guys do go to those sites because of things in their own lives or a lack of.This is the only gay site I come to. To see Davey Wavey bare-chested? No in fact I wish he get dressed. I come to this site to see the comments from others. To help me better understand what other gays think. To me there is no need or desire to go to grindr or manhunt…all I am saying.BTW the vast majority of people that go to those sites are nothing like me. Grazie
