Well, in a sense. A lot of people are know are like “Yeah, we have to be tolerant of gay people, it’s not their fault they’re that way”, kind of viewing them as these victims of a rampaging evil sexuality. Which I suppose is a step up from figurative pitchforks and torches, but it’s still nowhere near where it should be.

I definitely think that lesbians are more accepted than gay men. I think that overall gay men are still somewhat seen as feminine and not at all masculine. It’s sad that both groups cannot be viewed equal to heterosexuals. Also, lots of straight guys have the idea that all lesbians are hot, sexy and feminine. This is not always true. Stereotypes are bad and are still in society today.

I think lesbians are more accepted. In my opinion, and from what I’ve seen in my life, men tend to be more homophobic than women. Those men are scared of gay men because they feel threatened, believing that every gay man wants to have sex with them. However, gay women isn’t so disgusting, because they find it attractive. Many women love having gay best friends, because they’re able to hang out with them. While some women may feel threatened by gay women, more are accepting. Furthermore, many countries around the world still have homosexuality as a crime. However, in some of those, it is only male homosexuality that is punished. Lesbians are just fine. So, while both will experience discrimination, I think that many lesbians will find it slightly easier.

I think I see where your comming from but I hope you realize that that in really Feminists don’t actually care about gay men. Yes they have taken gays under their wings but that is just political strategy. I have seen a lot of feminist inspired research that focuses on lesbians and conveniently ignores gay men. This includes a recent study that said lesbians make better mothers (a biased study at that)… they didn’t even include gay men. Consider all the feminist writtings about female only reproduction and gleeful talk about how men will be obsolete. Again why are they ignoring the possibility of male only procreation. You think feminists and women aren’t threatened at the idea that men can parent without women. Think about the divorce industry (most divorces are initiated by women), family courts (which favor women), and other services set up by feminists which make it relatively easy for women to get rid of the man while exacting money from him (alimony and child support). Women already have much more reproductive options then men (pill, abortion, adoption) and in all cases they are never penalized. And in the state of Utah they can give the kid up for adoption without the permission of the father.
Basically all there money goes to women/girls and not men/boys. This includes health, economic, victim services, education (boy crisis?!?), and more.
And yes, you are definitely right, it is much harder for gay men than gay women. Its a tragedy that men especially have to follow stricter sexual rules. I think its the remnant of a system that forces men to provide and serve for women, in such a system what would a man be if he does not serve women or sacrifice himself for society. You think women aren’t part of this double standard??? I can’t tell you how many times Ive been told by women, in so many words, that I’m supposed to think about p***y all the time and am supposed to enjoy seeing two girls. And at the same time I hear from women unequivocally that two guys are a turn off. Men are far more accepting of women have fluid sexuality than women are of men having fluid sexuality. If women became more accepting of men kissing or men and more I guaranFUCKINtee you that men would stop being homophobic, but women for the most part are way too threatened by that and would not date such men.
I can’t tell you how much I hate the homophobia of gay men. I hate it for the sake of gay men but I also hate it for the sake of straight men. I see it as something that ruins all men; it stops men from being men and puts all the straight Guy’s eggs in the woman’s grasp. His identity, emotions, touching and closeness happens through women. All the while some of the most revered cultures in history such as the Greeks and Celts openly practiced male to male intimacy/sex; the interaction between the men was fuller and richer and men as a whole were better off for it.
Please don’t let the Feminists who don’t care about men and only encourage women to act homosexual keep men divided.

To be honest, I think it’s harder for gay men. When I’m around boys, they’ll joke that something is ‘gay’ or someone should ‘suck dick’ as a ‘punishment’(to be honest, I’m not sure they AREN’T gay themselves). But whenever I’m around my female companions there aren’t any jokes about lesbians, or anything like that. It’s sort of a ‘oh well, who cares?’ mentality. Although, I’m really not sure what would happen if someone came out…min you I’m still in highschool so a little different than the real world.
Actually, (sidenote) I think that women aren’t as concerned with it (in my opinion, most likely false and sexist), it being homosexuality, because there’s a more carefree, less responsible attitude. Like “what the hell, i don’t care”

When women stop getting offended at men kissing men, then men wont need to act so homophobic. Men give women that freedom but women are not doing the same for men; women will get all uptight at the sight of it.

lesbians are more accepted, it may be hard for them to come out.. but they come out to a world that really doesnt care… Men on the other hand come out to a World with a majority against it.. even if you say you dont have a problem with gay guys…. if youve ever even made a gay joke or anything .. you obviously do have some sort of problem… 99 percent of people dont like gay men… they just DONT!.. im gay and i can honestly say untill people get to know you eveyrone at the begining is a bit funny around you, women are encouraged to be more independent and less femminin in these days where men that are gay are always gonna be seen as less of men so… thats my answer

In my experience, lesbians are more widely accepted than gay men. However, I believe it has some correlation to women being still mostly seen as slightly ‘under’ men, in some places more than others. There is lots of ‘pretty talk’ of women being equal, but in many cases, they’re still seen as slightly less. And by a great deal of straight men in my experience, as just something to pour their seed into, or get off on. It’s demeaning and degrading to me.
Now, I’m a very accepting woman, I really don’t care who or what you are, if I love you, then that’s that. I’ve had a great deal of crushes on gay men, straight men, straight women, gay women, transgenders, it doesn’t matter to me. They were all great people. I would be more than happy if more people could see everyone as just that, another person. I’m not saying to have the same sexuality, oh no, that’s a personal preference. But . . . be blind to theirs. And not in the way that it causes you to flirt with someone that wouldn’t be receptive. Be blind to it the way we’re mostly blind to eye colour. “Oh, she’s got blue eyes.” *walks on*. “Oh, there’s a gay couple.” *walks on*
It simply isn’t different to me, to see couples of all variants. On a side note, one person claimed that it was women not accepting gay men that causes men to be homophobic – I sincerely doubt that. I love to see two gay men in a relationship. Passing the buck is a sad and sorry way to hide your opinion on something. The vast majority of female anime/manga fans of all ages I’ve met, have read or watched at least one bit of yaoi, or gay male anime/manga. And they seem to like it. So how is it that these women are homophobic?

I think that although it seems like gay women are accepted more, they’re actually not. It’s more of the idea of lesbians that are accepted.
The media has portrayed lesbians as just women who have sex with eachother but ultimately want penis. This is negative because lesbian couples are not taken seriously in society, just merely laughed off. The reason why gay men are accepted less is because people take them seriously. No one sees a gay couple and thinks, ” those men don’t really want eachother, they want vagina.”
But when people (especially men) see a lesbian couple, for example me and my gf. They make remarks like “Threesome”, stuff like they can change us, etc.

I know this is an old topic but i still feel compelled to weigh in. I am a lesbian and while its true we might get less of an ick factor from straight guys, we are rarely taken seriously but the straight community. I cant being to tell you how many times Ive gotten, “thats hot but i could turn you straight” and from straight girls, many are just as afraid as straight men are of gay men. the homophoia might be different but i certainly dont have it easier, especially if Im with a more masculine looking girl. Because lets face it, there are a lot of butch lesbians and you dont see straight guys say oh thats hot to them. I am still taunted and still risk harm going out with a girl in public. so my opinion is that one isnt easier than the other, though they might be different. Its ridiculusly hard for me and im pretty femme

Lesbians are more accepted.I read Rudolph Valentino’s biography and back in the twenties They couldn’t understand what two women would do in bed without a penis.But when it comes to men you still have a pole and hole.And it’s more about power than anything else.With women it’s a power thing because they think everybody wants p####.And when they can’t control you with it it pisses them off.But what people don’t understand is gay people have no sexual desire for the opposite sex.So why would you want someone who has no sexual desire for you.Are people so self centered that they only care about themselve and there own needs.If your only good for sex who needs you.Charlie Rose had a guest on his show.They did a survey of highschool students in 1950.How important are you 8% said they were important.They did the same survey in 2005 and it was 80%.

@Hannah: you are spot on. It’s not so easy for lesbians either. At least men’s sexuality is taken seriously therefore seeming more threatening than two women without a penis. Women’s sexuality is simply tossed over the shoulder.
As for women finding two men kissing displeasing,that’s their right to. Gay men are notorious for belittling and mocking women’s bodies and Gentiles and almost seem to get off on it. Men either gay of straight will always try to roll all of their doubts and emotions of inferiority onto us. Lesbians will always have it hard on this planet while coexisting with men. Periord.
