Thanks to free holiday wi-fi from Google, I’m writing my first-ever blog post from 35,000 feet—somewhere in the sky over Washington, DC. How beautiful and fragile the world seems from way up here.
One of the best parts of my trip to Atlanta was spending some time with Emily, one of my friends from university. (As a side-note: Emily, Matt and I all recorded this Thursday’s talky blog—so stay tuned for that!) Emily is one of those amazing people that’s insanely positive in a really infectious way. Spending time with her is a joy for everyone!
She’s spent a lot of time in South America (in fact, she’s returning there next year to teach), and I noticed a not-so-discreet tattoo on her right hand. In green ink, it read as follows: “Un poco de fragancia siempre se adhiere a la piel del que regala una rosa.” It roughly translates to “a bit of fragrance always clings to the skin of he who gives a rose.”
I asked Emily what it means to her, and she said that when you do something that helps others—when you make a gift of your time, energy or love—you receive something beautiful in return. It’s impossible to give without receiving—a timely reminder as we approach the holidays. Emily has certainly given a lot of roses, and indeed, you can smell the fragrance of her compassionate heart.
On this Monday morning, here’s a rose from me to you. XO

Thats really nice. I saw a french mickey D’z commercial in french and It wuzz about this highschool kid who didn’t wanna tell his dad he’s gay. ultimately the moral of the story wuzz come to McDonalds as you are. hence the slogan “come as you are” in french. I like the commercial and the slogan because #1 it’s cute, and #2 its positive and Im always looking for things to be optimistic about. I think you should do a talkyblog about str8 guys that are so cocky they like to tease gay guys like myself…. its irritating, especially when we’re all supposed to be friends. He’s sneaky about it too. He waits till his GF isn’t paying attention and he’ll say something that sits on the fence between flirting and not remembering yur talking to 21yr old gay guy….it’s weird cuz I know he’s str8 but he thinks he’s so smooth….its driving me nuts what should I do? maybe I should just call him on it next time…
