“Being gay is a gift…”

The other day, while watching TV, I heard a minister refer to being gay as a gift. “It’s a gift from God”, he said. Though the label of God doesn’t resonate with me, his sentiment does. I had never thought about my sexuality as a gift. But I tend to agree.

When I came out to my mother, years and years ago, she asked me (hypothetically) if I’d take a pill to turn straight. I told her that I wouldn’t. She was surprised. She told me that life was already hard enough and wondered why I’d want to continue down a path that would likely be even harder. Gay people, she reminded me, are fighting an uphill civil rights battle and still face discrimination on a large scale.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure why I wouldn’t take the pill. I couldn’t articulate my thoughts. I just knew that I didn’t want to change the fact that I was gay.

The years haven given me the time and experience to collect my thoughts. Today, I realize that being gay has taught me so much. From a very young age, I was forced to ask questions about myself, life and religion. My desires differed from my peers and were against what I was taught. The journey to rectify this disconnect would be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and a great source of creativity.

The anti-gay discrimination that I faced in university derailed my path toward corporate America. If I had taken the “straight pill”, I’d be sitting in an office tower in NYC counting the minutes until 5pm.

I wouldn’t have this amazing job.

I wouldn’t met most of my friends.

I wouldn’t have used art as an outlet.

I wouldn’t be sharing my life with a beautiful, talented boyfriend.

I wouldn’t be writing this blog.

I wouldn’t be connecting with you.

Being gay is a gift. There’s no ifs, butts or questions about it. If you’re lucky enough to be gay, cherish it always.

great post. thank you davey wavey

  2. I’ll tell you want I LOVE about being gay and why I have always thought of being gay as a gift.

I realized I was gay when I was about 10 years old and unlike most guys I was perfectly OK with it. This was during the early 1980′s when being gay was VERY BAD in America. Ok it might have taken a few weeks to be really completely OK with it but I realized I really was gay and I accepted it and planned how I wanted to deal with it.

I decided RIGHT THEN AND THERE at 10 years old that I would NEVER ALLOW ANYONE to find out. Being Gay was my little secret to enjoy. Some people call this living in the closet but I enjoy it and it’s like I’m a SPY like James Bond who has to conceal his true identity and fool everyone around him.

WHY DO THIS?? Because I wanted to have a REAL LIFE and fit in with everyone else not be some GAY KID!! I have NO Regrets about this because I was able to REALLY enjoy myself more than you can imagine. You see, being straight for everyone was natural for me, I am one of those Gay guys you would NEVER think is gay, I act very masculine and it’s natural for me, I’m very good looking and as a boy I would look at myself in the mirror and just be SO turned on and I loved masturbating by looking at myself naked. I also was able to have lots of friends who were BOYS and we got to swim together and play together and have lots of FUN if you know what I mean. Now all of this would have never happened if I would have “came out” so I had a much happier life and got to be around more hot sexy boys by acting straight and being a masculine kid rather than a f*g.

As a kid, I had lots of friends and NONE of them knew I was gay so this allowed me to be the POPULAR KID in school with many friends and even Girl Friends.I played sports including SWIMMING which allowed me to SHAVE MY BODY and I LOVED THIS!!!! It was so awesome. There are so many ways to enjoy being GAY without really being gay, you just have to be smart about it and everyone will accept you. Even as a GAY male, there are girls who are fun to be around and who are not that bad. I dated this one girl all through high school and she knew I had some gay tendancies but it was OK with her because I could really screw her like crazy and give her amazing orgasms. She loved how sexually liberated I was and the things I liked to do that most straight guys would NEVER have the guts to try such as eating her out and doing anal play etc. She LOVED it. Sure the sex is not THAT GREAT for me but hey I can still get it up and screw women and have fun doing it. I mean come on sex feels good. I think a lot of gay men should try having sex with a woman once in a while just for the fun of it. I have NEVER had a problem getting it up for a woman because I love sex in general but in reality I am VERY Attracted to males and I prefer having sex with a male when I get the chance.

Honestly I feel that ALL MEN are somewhat gay, they just have to be OPEN to these feelings and not fight it. Being GAY is simply allowing yourself to enjoy the pleasure of feeling sexual feelings with another man. ANY man today in 2009 has to admit there are a LOT OF GOOD LOOKING HOT MEN on TV and in MOVIES so you might as well give it a try!!

  3. A reply for fh839fh93hf. You have it really down pat. I really like your outlook. Be happy and don’t worry about who knows. I never could understand why gays had to come out but there is no heterosexual coming out day. Give them something to worry about rather than worrying about us. LOL.

  4. Can I say that just after reading that, DW, that you have made me feel so much better about being gay. I’m 16 (started down this road 9 months ago) and a lot of my friends know that I’m gay, but my family don’t really know (I told my mum and grandmother but she didn’t really believe me). She’s been saying lately that gay people are sad, but I don’t believe her. Being a Catholic in Bangor, N. Ireland and gay can be hard, especially going to church when I feel uneasy now.

But thanks Davey Wavey for making me feel that little bit happier about who I am.
