Do less and accomplish more.

I like the idea of doing less and accomplishing more. Eventually, it means doing nothing and accomplishing everything (i.e., miracles).

While this idea may be news to many of us, it’s actually a fairly common and widely accepted principle. Deepak Chopra calls it the law of least effort. In Vedic Science, it’s referred to as the principle of economy.

Our bodies generate, store and expend a tremendous amount of energy. We can use that energy for anything. If we use our ego as the centerpiece of our energy expenditure, we’re not operating efficiently. Upholding the ego means trying to exercise control over the people and situations in our lives. If, however, we use our spirit as the centerpiece, and motivate our actions with love, then we greatly increase our efficiency – and thus, our ability to manifest. To hear this expressed more eloquently, click here.

Acceptance is the golden rule to this law of least effort. It’s all about accepting this moment, and not struggling against the universe.

Today, I found out that my accommodations in Sydney fell through. Instead of resisting this (and thereby resist the entire universe – which is a very inefficient use of energy), I will remind myself that the universe has “something” even grander in store for me.

And I will direct my energy and efforts into discovering that “something” with an open heart and mind.

  1. Heya Davey,

I agree that something grander will become of this. I have always been told that ecerything happens for a reason. I agree – maintaining an ego uses energy tht can be used elsewhere for more important things. Hope all is well.

    Love and Peace

    Jack

  2. Hey DW, so you’ve decided on Australia yay :-)
Tell us more about your plans there etc…after all
    we did vote!

and besides i also live there :-)

    peace out

  3. Davey,

First time writing on your blog – also agree with you and Jack’s views. On the Deepak Chopra note – he is probably one of the smartest people I personally know. A lot of what he says (and may write), doesn’t immediately make sense, but over a few days of thinking, his messages are very powerful (the technique is a type of yoga, known as jyana yoga – meditation through phrases/questions).

Separately, not sure if any of you saw what he had to say on the day of Michael Jackson’s death on Larry King, but his theory turned out to be correct 2 months later when the autopsy results were back. For those of you that didn’t hear him, he said that the medical world is full of a lot of “drug pushers”, unfortunately MJ was a victim of that. MJ and Deepak were close friends and often used to come to Deepak to ask him for prescriptions, leaving him empty handed.

Another sidetrack – On the theme of MJ, do you think if he would’ve done less to himself, he could’ve accomplished a lot more? – I totally think so!

  4. Or you could take it as a hint from the lady upstairs that you’re supposed to come to London!
    xx

  5. Very interesting concept. I would like to learn more about that concept. I wholeheartedly agree with the dropping the ego and its drain on energy to uphold. Do you have a suggestion as to where to explore that principle more?

  6. Oh, yes. On the theme of London vs Sydney. I’d say London hands down (and that’s not my bias kicking in because im from London).

  7. it’s so true. I just spent three hours telling 2 girls their lives arent meaningless because their boyfriends broke up with them. If they only could understand this, they wouldnt have to worry and stress so much

  8. While I think this is an amazing point in that by doing nothing you can achieve everything, its not really a practical perspective. Often I find that when I’m meditating I get a lot more done than when I’m “working diligently”. However, the work i’m getting done while meditating is not the same as when i’m doing homework. Its more of a mental exercise, finding peace and creating a relaxed and joyous mindset that prepares me for the rest of my day. While meditating does allow me to create my universe, because im creating my perspective, i’m not really doing anything to achieve my goals in life. I would definitely enjoy a life where all I could do was sit and think and create but that just isn’t something we can do today. You need basic things like food and water… and computers (oh internet).
While your comments are an ideal that would create ultimate happiness, they just cant work. We can not drop egos so arbitrarily. How will civilization advance? and how will man grow and evolve? It is because of man’s ego’s that we constantly improve upon ourselves. We must put effort into giving our lives significance in whatever way we see fit. I know this next statement is in complete contrast to your beliefs davey but: Can’t we believe in man’s ability to affect change?

  9. fell through as in you can’t go?

  10. Maybe now is not the time for sydney. I would say pray about it but… anywho maybe you are needed elsewhere and sydney can wait. There are som many places I would love to go but have only been places when the flow of my life took me there less of when I actively decided to go.

  11. i agree with your ideas davey wavey but you must also remember that you have to create your own success and destiny…not by just sitting there. hard work and a good work ethic will allow you to go forward and towards your goals.luck is when opportunity meets preparation. im sorry your plans for down under fell through and i agree with you, no need to resist the universe. however, you can get around it. get around the universe and use a different path. it isnt resisting, it’s being clever, cunning, and sharp. use that other path davey wavey, and dont just go to your 2nd choice location just bc your accommodations fell through for the 1st location. use that other path. take that other street. whereever your heart desires, you should listen to it. go back, and then go forward again.

  12. I want it and I want it now – from a consumer driven culture. Wanting does not give something value or make it “good” (or even “bad”) for a certain person, place or time. Its simply ego. The actions that follow from wanting have repercussions.

The universe is not in a divine state of suspended order. Atoms fuse, planets spin, suns supernova, equally it does not stop you brushing your teeth, working etc.

The trick is to find the correct people, place and time to align your atoms and actions with the universal flow.

  13. Davey Wavey…You know New Jerszzy still awaits…so come back and stay again with me…Love “your” David

  14. Hehe I’m like this too…

That law of least effort expresses itself on me in a very simple way : when I need to “move”, I’m in action ; otherwise, I’m “waiting”.

Waiting but more importantly, I’m “opened” or try to be… the “thing to catch” may be so speedy :o P~

  15. crash out at some blog buddies, travel around do so, eh?

  16. Oh Mr. Wavey! You always know how to say it! Truth be told; you always know WHEN to say it, as well.

Today’s blog was well timed. I needed the reminder that I should get out of the way and let the creator, as I know Him, take care of the things I worry about. Ego and the need to be needed (Co-dependency) always get in the way of healthy actions.

  17. i not saying anything i just think the universe is saying it all for me, i dont know why but there must be a reason..

i think its great you are going to were you want to be and you will have alot of fun in the sun, but how many more signs you gonna let pass by you.

im not saying go london but maybe think it over again.

ps it was a nice blue skys in england today :)

  18. I am a firm believer that the Universe sometimes plays baseball. Sometimes it throws us a curve to test our resolve. Are we easily discouraged? Do we give up at the first sign of trouble or things not going our way ? etc. We don’t and won’t remember the tests that required no effort on our part. We do remember and value the tests that made us grit our teeth and show us what we are made of.

    • there is a difference between a sign and a test. and i dont know anyother signs which he may of had but the fact his appartment fell through thats more of a sign not to go then a test.

but who knows i could be wrong maybe its a test to get a better place lol

    • Can a sign be a test ? It depends. If you are expecting all the stars to line up once you have made a decision, and they don’t. Is it relevant or just a fluke ? Just asking…

    • yer it could be a fluke his appartment fell through.. i dont believe in the universe telling you things but im open to it..

not everyone knows how the human body works but who knows maybe deep down davy didnt wanna go sydney. he could be making there signs because london is were he wants to go so things that have anything to do with england stand out to him.

but thats just my opin ;)

  19. deepak chopra is a phony. he has made a fortune off of peddling middle eastern platitudes to gullible americans. the other self-indulgent chopra (oprah) retails in mediocrity. she has made stars of not so stellar people as rachel ray, dr phil and dr oz. perhaps you should grow up a little, davey, and not be so self cherishing. you are not a kid anymore.

  20. nice law of economy :)

  21. It is so hard to learn to stop trying to control life and learn just to enjoy the journey.

This is never easy but life is so much more fun and less stressful and less full of anxiety when you learn to let go of the need to try to control life and just let it be.

We can not control life, we can only give our the sense of control from fighting and trying.

Isn’t it easier to learn to just let go?

  22. I love how you can just turn around and think about a situation from a different perspective and see it as something amazing, magical and something oh-so good!

    You’re such a good person. :)

  23. Perspective is simply a two dimensional representation of a 3 or higher D object. There are many 2D views (depending on where the viewing occurs) for 1 3D object. So perspective is actually subtracting a dimension, but doing it in different ways to get different perspectives.

  24. When time is added to the dimensions, movement becomes possible so we can have a 3D view of a 4D object – same result – you get different perspectives depending on your velocity relative to the object you view.
