How Do You Know You’re Not Insane?

How do you know you’re not insane?

If you tan your skin because you believe it’s too light and bleach your anus because you believe it’s too dark, then you probably are. But without pens up your nose and peas in your ears, it’s not always that easy for the rest of us.

Last night, I was craving a snack while watching the premier of Glee (I have recently and reluctantly become a fan of the show, but mostly because I want to sleep with Finn, aka Canadian heart-throb Cory Monteith). I was hungry. And so I opened the refrigerator, searched around and gave up when I became unsatisfied with the selection. During the next commercial break, I searched through the fridge again. And again. Did I really expect new options to have appeared miraculously? I’m insane, I concluded.

I think we’re all a bit nutty. We poison the planet on which we are dependent for survival. We fight, maim, rape and kill our brothers and sisters. And we uproot our entire lives for a little thing called love.

Maybe simply being aware of our insanity is the sanest thing we can hope to do. At least, that’s what the voice inside my head told me.

Are you so sure of your sanity?

  1. Are you really trying to have a sane conversation with DavidE? My, my.

  2. You suspend the need for evidence when it comes so many things but this you need evidence for?

  3. Insanity = looking for sanity in an insane world.

  4. You look a little like Buster Keaton, silent film genius, around the eyes in this pic.

So true about the refrigerator search.

Can’t wait for your return to “Hogtown”.

    Rock on Davey!

  5. So i feel like your analogy of the refrigerator is kind of how i look at face book when i’m procrastinating writing a paper or anything on the computer for school. i get on, check it, wait until i get bored with work, check it again and nothings changed…..BTW the first time i saw Cory Monteith, i thought he kind of resembled you Davey.

  6. If this comment about evidence is addressed to me, no, I haven’t suspended the need for evidence in any matter. I was raised to be skeptical, and scientific, later was an atheist, and that’s why it was so embarrassing to end up convinced of something so crazy like ancient cults still ruling the world with secret encoded messages in everything from Einstein theories to soap operas!! I just wanted to meet a cute guy and write cool novels, not this!

It’s very strange to have been the cynic for many years and now to be taken for a crazy who believes weird stuff without intelligence or proof? What if you stumbled across a “mountain of evidence” of a huge conspiracy with billions of victims? Would you just ignore it? Could you? Especially when the cult keeps itself going by doing awful things to babies and everyone else. That is the part I’d most like to stop.

It’s kind of funny how people want to get on with their fun and sweep aside the actual question I’m asking. I’m not a gay man, I’m a straight woman (though technically could be a gay man trapped in a woman’s body, felt like that as a teenager, which I mentioned to my gay brother and asked him what he felt like and he said “NO COMMENT”) and I would really appreciate someone’s opinion on this. If you are embarrassed to say a genuine opinion on this “fun-loving” site about that you were abused or manipulated into being gay, why not go to my website or send me an email? You could help prevent MANY young children from a horrible fate of trauma and torture if we can reveal this now. One of the biggest things stopping action is the public’s hesitation to consider that crazy is the truth, but enough people coming forward with their stories on a site like mine that doesn’t allow them to be attacked for it could start to make a huge difference. (I have already published one whistle blower and what she describes about her childhood is mind-blowing.)

Is that crazy? It’s worth a try even if it feels crazy.

To be clear, the question is this: does anyone reading this think they had things done to them as a child to make them gay for the purposes of someone’s agenda to alter society?

Come on, I know there’s at least one brave guy out there…

  7. ok to answer your question, no. I know someone didn’t make me gay to alter society.
And I will say again I think your wasting your time on this site posting stuff like that…

  8. Oliver Wendell Holmes,Sr. said
“Insanity is often the logic of an accurate mind overtasked. Good mental machinery ought to break its own wheels and levers, if anything is thrust among them suddenly which tends to stop them or reverse their motion. A weak mind does not accumulate force enough to hurt itself; stupidity often saves a man from going mad.”
So, I am safe. I did not know i was stupid until i was past my 20′s though and truly thought i was going nuts.
Chord Overstreet can eat me any day of the week! Or i will do unto others as—–

  9. Although Davide and I share very different views, he has every right to his view, just as I have every right to mine. Just because we disagree on a lot of things doesn’t mean we can’t discuss those differences.

  10. I know exactly how insane I am I even have a medical diagnosis to prove it!! :D

  11. Where can I get me some of that bleach? Sounds good.

  12. I think maybe it’s the bad boy attitude? lol. I think Finn is just as hunky as Puck. The only difference is that Puck has the attitude.

  13. why do people think insane people need to be “fixed”… they just have a different perspective on life, that’s all

  14. i totally do the fridge checking thing all the time, you never know you might have some clever idea to make something better out the unwanted stuff in there

  15. I think it’s very easy and convenient to think that way. We get to make them ‘wrong’ for the way they act and we get to feel safe and secure that we must be ‘right’. I think God has given us a multitude of people with a plurality of perspectives and perceptions to challenge us to accept, love and to live-and-let-live. After all, He loves us all equally regardless of how we act and think.

  16. i always kept on doing the same thing when i get bored,, like checking on fridge every single minutes, going back forth inside and outside of the house checking on mails, checking phone messages every single second although it didn’t ringing,, but basically it bcas we want something so badly that we hope that something miracle happen or we get too bored… but its sounds insane! but it’s not insanity, it’s habit.. i guess.
