Like a cell.

I was walking up the stairs at the gym today when I was overcome by a peculiar sensation. All at once, I had the overwhelming feeling that I was like a cell in the body that is this planet.

Much like a cell in a human body, I move about the planet. And, like a cell, it’s my duty to care for the well-being of the greater entity that I serve. When functioning properly, I affect positive change in the planet in the same way that the various types of cells work to ensure the well-being of the body.

There are 210 types of cells in the human body. Each cell type has it function. And on this planet, each of us has a purpose. There are immune system cells, sweat producing cells, hormone-secreting cells and many others. And on this planet, there are porn stars, doctors and personal trainers.

Of course, sometimes cells go a bit awry. Sometimes cells attack other cells. When this happens, it’s called autoimmune disease. The very same thing happens on planet Earth when humans attack humans in the forms of war, shootings and other violence.

And when cells go completely out of control and start multiplying without end, it’s called cancer. When that happens to people, we call it John & Kate Plus 8.

Most of all, like the cells, we’re entirely interconnected with each other and the greater entity that is our planet. When we harm each other or the Earth, we harm ourselves. And when we help our fellow man, we help ourselves. Therefore, it’s in all of our best interests – separately and collectively – to act with love, compassion and peace.

  1. You are a very inspiring, and beautiful human being. I enjoy reading your posts and watching your videos, you are very uplifting, as well as entertaining and not bad to look at LOL. Thanks for doing what you do!!

  2. you should read “The Tragedy of the Commons.” its a famous essay by Garrett Hardin. heres a link:

    http://www.garretthardinsociety.org/articles/art_tragedy_of_the_commons.html

I know, i know. it is really really long. but it is reeeeeeeally interesting. you should really take the time and read it.

  3. David,

I would like to tell how courageous you are to continue to write your posts; I surely would have stopped for a few days!

It reinforces all the admiration I have for you and your work!

Today, Google takes pity on me with its new “google translate” – it’s strange for me to see your blog in my mother tongue. This way, it’s easier and I spend less time reading it!

I wonder if it wouldn’t be more entertaining to have you for biology teacher instead of my current professor? It would be certainly less boring!

Let me tell you that I couldn’t help but think about you all day! You talked about compassion, was it? Most certainly, but it was more than that and those feelings were weird, disturbing! What I know now for sure is that I’m very attached to you as a blog buddy!

    bye,

  4. Love, compassion and peace are good for some. There are others who are bullies and will push you to your limits. Some refer to them as assh***s (I pray I have disguised this word sufficient so I will not offend the meek). For some you must smile but carry a big stick. Virtue works.

Are you going to give us a bum report. How is it?

  5. Cells are collections of molecules, molecules are collections of atoms, and, atoms are collections of protrons, electrons and neutrons (and each of those are collections too).

But here is the kicker: At the event of Big Bang, there is a singular particle of pure energy — so pure and so uncorrupted, that ALL the energy and all the matter that comprises the totality of the Universe is, in that moment, one.

Every single atom of every human, animal, bird, plant, drop of ocean water and river water, every mountain ridge and snow cap, every dot of dust on the moon, the fires of the sun, every star, every planet, comet, super nova … every bit of everything … began from that first singular particle of pure energy.

We are all a subset of that One.

  6. hahaha, Jon and Kate

I feel so bad for those kids.

  7. Nice analogy. Looks like you have had a realization of the Law of Correspondence: That which is above is like that which is below; That which is below is like that which is above.

We are the microcosm, as you know.

  8. Yes, a very powerful analogy. Here’s an idea, a bit “out there,” but an idea, nonetheless.

If we are spiritual beings and are an idea of the perfect Universe, aren’t we perfect? And, if that’s true, doesn’t that perfect our human experience in the measure that we embrace it.

Hugs, man. Thanks for making me think.

  9. the jon and kate part made me laugh so hard. but I loved the rest of it.

  10. I loved the analogy (especially because I’m a Biology major). Very inspiring :D

  11. WELL SAID. Peace

  12. I F’n Love You! I’m new to this blog & just recently discovered who you were & what you’re all about but I didn’t know how much you’ve impacted me in my life just by watching your some of videos & reading some of your blogs until the other day. Then I read another post & it hit me, I was “addicted” (as I put it to my friends) & now I can’t stop reading your blogs/posts (I’m not sure what they’re really called).

I look up to you. The way you see the world & the way you look at life the way you do is just so inspiring that I truly feel that I want to be just like you when I grow up. I sincerely hope that there’s nothing wrong & that you DON’T have colon cancer, it would suck bunches!
    Peace & Love,
    JC

  13. i get what your saying but i dont think we are cells, we are more like a virus spreading and attacking the body..

when have humans done any good to this planet.

  14. Good metaphor. It can be made more real by substituting ‘the world’ for ‘the city’, your/my own city. We all have a role in it because we are part of it. Keep up the good work.

  15. this calls to mind your current dilemma-keep us blogbuddies posted.we are praying for you.we are after all only human.let us all hope for the best.

  16. I believe we are all interconnected with each other. If your boss is having a bad day, there’s a chance that we get affected by his mood. Or, if we project positive attitude towards others, others can inherit that from you. But sometimes, although things happen differently in each one us, we still have this power of choice. We can choose to be affected, or not and sometimes we feel like we are left with no choice. But anyway, I do believe each one of us has a purpose. The same way that each cell in our body has.

  17. Amen! And Davey, you are a powerful ANTIOXIDANT for all of us. A little bit of Davey Wavey goes a long way to help make the body whole.

  18. hahaha… Jon and Kate. Funny!! YOURE FUNNY… kinda… :)

  19. Ahahaha Jon & Kate plus 8 hahaha
