You’re cutting yourself short if you’re “having” a bad day.
November 24, 2009 | 32 Comments
I suppose it might be possible to “have” what could be considered a bad day. But I think that this statement is incomplete and misleading.
For example: Tonight, I had a bad dinner. I heated up some taco meat from the distant past, and added some dried up cheese to an even drier tortilla. I’m trying to clear my cupboards, so I accompanied my dinner with a few less-than-satisfying baked potato chips leftover from the month prior. Indeed, I “had” a bad dinner.
But moreover, I “created” a bad dinner. Saying that I had a bad dinner leaves out a crucial detail: I am the one responsible for said undesirable culinary creation. And that crucial detail makes all the difference!
More than having a bad day, each of us creates a bad day. We are the participants shaping the reality around us. Sure, unforeseen and tragic events may unfold that are beyond your control, but your perspective of those events is yours and yours alone.
And when the shit hits the proverbial fan, each of us is presented with the opportunity to turn the “bad” into an opportunity to be stronger, wiser or more powerful than we ever imagined.
Whatever type of day you are judging today to be – good, bad, or otherwise – it is of your sole creation. Own it and enjoy it; take responsibility for what is yours.

Ok so you have a way at looking at things in the light all the time … now … where is that pie. Om nom nom nom.
Preach it Davey!!!!! I still say life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it! BTW … nice pics/pecs take your choice! lol!
Much love.
I actually ‘had’ an awful today but this put it all into perspective!
Almost let a “bad” moment at the end of the day color the rest of it. Hmm. I think I know how to make it better. Thanks for the nudge, Davey.
Hmm, what if you get hit by a truck and you end up dead? Guess it’s impossible to think positive about it then hey?
Are sure you’re OK? I see you’re wearing pants…indoors…what’s with that?
What are your thoughts on:
a) second thoughts
b) gut feelings, gut instincts…do you go with yours?
Cheers
OMG…he does wear pants!!!
Wow, I was having such a rotten day today, but upon reading your words, my spirits were definitely lifted!
Gosh why can’t I carry one of you with me everywhere :/
Thanks
I was thinking the same day the other thing
I meant the same thing the other day. My mistake hehe
What a great way of demonstrating how a shift in perspective permits us to realize that the world we live in is the world we create. I also enjoyed the fact that in all three pictures your water glass is definitely more than half full.
I had a similar day. I was rushing about and felt “stressed”. But when I told myself to relax and think positively, my mood changed. Miraculous, no? =)
A word to the wise: Stop eating the crap you are shown eating and start putting as much energy into your diet as you do into your workout and other persuits. No wonder you are having trouble with your gut.
Food for thought. Thx!
Agreed, Davey!
It’s like when people say they’re having a “case of the Mondays,” I actually kinda like Mondays… it’s a fresh start at a brand new week! What could be bad about that?
It’s like Christmas all the time!
My morning is not going so well – its my doing. Gonna turn it around!
I am thankfull for you Davey.
hence, “the secret”
hence, “the secret”.
What I love about you other than your hot looks is you speak what I believe. I was told once that I had taken 3 hurts that happened at the same time and turned that negative energy into 1 big positive. A relationship break-up, loss of my house because of it and the death of my very close grandmother. That was 20 yrs ago, and now I’m in a big transition again in my life and am working the creative forces to take the impact of this year (bankruptcy due to the economy) and making into a positive new life. Thanks Davey for keeping me on track.
I love pie !
Thinking Positive or Negative when Dead?
Really doesn’t matter at that point does it?
You create your own reality. (So the question is, what kind of reality are you creating, Blog Buddies?)
Your right Davey, everyone “creates” their day. You can have a horriable break up but and if you mope around the rest of the day then it will be a “bad” day.
But if you accept that it happened and hold your head high and find something fun to do then you can create a good day ^^
i love you
ahahah
i love you.
it’s trrue we must take complete responsibility for every action we take.
to quote aristotle, The first principle of all action is leisure.” Leisure is happiness, and every action WE take, key word being “we,” is a step toward happiness. i read your post on your enlightening AWARE episode in the doctor’s office, and i am quite envious.
“People who are happy make the decision to be that way.” – McOuatt, 2009
Your posts make me feel better about my days.

The cage songbird sings because it is its nature to sing and also because it does not know it is caged. Humans and animals have an astounding ability to accept the circumstance under which they were raised as base reality. We continue to compare all other circumstances to this base reality and we keep trying to recreate this base reality in our lives. Its only when we become more aware or if we suffer huge trauma due to our fixation on “base reality” that we try to move past this. Looking past our conditioned “good/bad” base reality responses/judgements is the key to the REAL.
Interesting, and I agree with you. Question to propose: is it worth creating bad days for yourself for an extended period of time, if there is hope that the payoff will be much greater in the long run? For example, being a mine technician, an armed forces soldier on the front lines of conflict, mining an oil field in Siberia. How many bad days will you have? Probably very many. While it feels good to take care of your family, for example, there is still the self to consider. You create bad days with a hope that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. And unfortunately that may not always be the case. And trust, you are looking at (or rather reading at) Positive Patsy. I take responsibility probably more than most people, but at the same time know and own my own bad days.
PS- Thank you for your blog.
Thank You.
its no wonder you maybe having health problems-this may catch up to you-as it most likely has already.remember-we need to be responsible.
hi davey. composed a reply, but it was very long, and i didn’t want to clutter up your comments section with a reply that, especially in such a narrow column, would dominate this page. so, i blogged it on my own blog, and if you want to read my reply, you can read it there. i’ve also linked to this (your) blog post so anyone at my blog can see who i’m responding to and why.
the URL to my blog is the one i put into the “website” field above. if you get to my blog on another day, it won’t be at the top anymore, so scroll to the entry on 12/3/09 to find it.
Who are you!? …and where did you think up this short but informative and practical paragraph(s)? It was just what I need to read, and right to the point.
