goodbye buenos aires!

It may be time to say farewell, but don’t cry for me Argentina. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye. It’s as though a piece of yourself is always left behind, wherever you go. And on many levels that’s true. Your impact, great or small, is felt on everything and everyone that you encounter. The young child on the subway to which you gave a flower; the neighbors who knew you were watching them have sex; the people you meet and the friends you make. Lives touched and lives changed.

The flip side is also true. People and places change you. And I have been changed by Argentina. I made a talky blog and wanted to share a few of the lessons that I learned here. Follow along with the talky blog – here they are:

  1. Everything and everyone can be your teacher if you let it; there is a lesson to be learned in everything.
  2. Ice cream cones taste best with at least two flavors.
  3. This world is very, very small.
  4. Empanadas are the best invention – ever.
  5. Detachment isn’t a lack of love; it’s the greatest love you can have for someone.
  6. There is, in fact, such a thing as too much meat.
  7. When you connect with another person, you connect with the universe, and thus, you connect with yourself.

  1. such a nice way to end your expericence i remember when i went to europe last summer. You dont relize how much you have changed and how lucky you are til you leave and u wish you would of noticed that when you were there right?

  2. Have a good flight — I know what those 20 hour flights are like, have done enough of the them in the last year. (So where do you stand on the whole carbon footprint thing…)

But the ice cream. Have not had Argentine ice cream but at a guess it could come down to the cream content.

Love the blogs and the talky blogs. You seem to have the one-stop shop for body, mind and soul… Has it ever occurred to you that you could get famous doing this?

  3. James is so right not the famous like movies stars but the famous as someone who has a differnet perspectinve

  4. Yes, “real” famous —as in keeping it real. Or keeping us real. Or something.

  5. Thanks for sharing Argentina with us. It was fun to journey with you.

Welcome Back to the United States!

  6. This is an overall comment on your blog:
i accidentally ran into your video on youtube.
you sure seem to be thinking a lot…
I guess you have that much time on your hands. bravo for that!
also, you do make some interesting points but how much of that can or rather should one actually practice? do you think your stress-free approach could be good for all?
it sounds logical, but after thinking about it, to me it looks like you’re talking about being detached and the benefits of that… that can’t be good! it might be good for you, but is it good for the people around you?
after seeing your video posts my general opinion was that you had one-too-many yoga classes or are one of those, as the old greeks called them, sofists.. just blah blah but nothing actual behind it… at best l’art pour l’art (if it can be called art at all).
anyway, you obviously see detachedness as something that suits you well, and your comments such as the one on not “attaching labels” and creating expectations, your job and other facts about you (unless you are faking it) seem to fit in to that picture you created on-line.
you like keeping distance don’t you? and this whole blog thing, in a weird way, is just you expressing and rationalizing it – me thinks
am i right and how much?

  7. Dave- Being in my own personal spritual state of confusion, I appreciate all your insights. Thanks for sharing. Good luck on your flight.

  8. thats sucks i wished i could have readed ar watched wur things sooner but it didnt happend good luck !!!!!

  9. I linked you in my blog as you inspired me to start my own blog. Any words of wisdom for a new blogger?

  10. You know, I just started watching your videos on youtube today. I just happened to stumble across one of them I guess. I think its interesting that you really put yourself out there. For some strange reason, I listened to what you had to say, and hung onto every word. Im glad your living your “ideal” life, although to me it seems like there is something missing. Maybe i’m just being crazy, but maybe not. I know absolutely nothing about you. No one actually does. Only what we see, and how much of that can we really believe? I can see that some people really think they know you. We have no idea how you really feel, and think. I wish I really did know you. You would be good company. I think you have a one of a kind personality. And I hope you find what your looking for in life. No one likes feeling empty. Even the free spirited. Good luck in the states. I hope you meet many great people.

  11. You make me laugh, Davey! A 20-hour flight to a new place! – for Existence has changed things since you were last in the U.S. I don’t get your detachment though … you are reaching out to touch many lives … and it is working…

Enjoy your flight … hope you pick up the naughty stuff that I feel like projecting your way during the flight, just for the fun of it!

    Peace! Out! Hahaha!!

  12. I hope you liked our country. I wonder if you knew it was a special day yesterday, national elections day. Looks like we’ll have a female president now. :-P

And it’s never too much meat. :-P

Have a good flight and good luck, hope you come back someday.

  13. dave where did the time go it was just yesterday that you left for BA. thanks for sharing the pics with us. enjoys the time at your parents house before moving into you on space. safe and speedy trip.

    max

  14. those were quite inspiration thoughts. guess you would’ve arrived in the states now. oh, by the way, the Empanadas you were talking about, at first i didn’t know what they were, but they look so similar to the ones back home, called curry puffs. wiki it. ;)

  15. You need to try italian ice cream possibly the best thing ever in a way you’re not even sure how or why, I think its actually the sugar content of it, I choose to believe its magic lol. They also come in massive portions and are totally cool with mix and matching. I personally recommend any around the Trevi Fountain in Rome, they have in my experience been the best (possibly due to magical proximity to the fountain).
