I did it.
I cheated on my iPhone and took a deeper step into digital immersion (of which there is no turning back): I bought an iPad. And my life will never be the same.
I have to admit, it wasn’t love at first sight. But my first interaction with the iPad – which is essentially a giant iPhone without the whole phone part – left me longing for more.
And as the days progressed, I cracked under pressure and made the splurge. What’s the verdict?
- It’s a bitch to write on. I can’t blog from it.
- It’s incredibly sexy.
- It’s great for consuming content – YouTube works like a dream.
- Not so wonderful for creating content.
- Grindr is really fun on the big screen.
- Why isn’t there a camera?
- It’s the best thing that has ever happened to mankind, though I’m not sure why.
I laughed when Steve Jobs totted the iPad as magical. But it turns out, it is. It has the x-factor.
I’d write more, but I have to get back to playing Labyrinth 2 3D. In the meantime, enjoy this silly iPad talky blog from Davey Wavey Raw:
Do you have an iPad? Are you planning on getting one? What do you think of it?

“the iPad – which is essentially a giant iPhone without the whole phone part”

DW – I have a friend who bought the case for the iPad that turns into a stand for it as well. He also picked up the wireless keyboard, and he uses that combo to chat, blog, etc.
Check it out!

Hey! I was def. in front of you at providence place yesterday. Then you passed me and my friend up to speed walk into the Apple store & get your iPad. It was amazing, I should have said hi!

Oh I so want one but it needs the camera. Otherwise it’s just not worth it. And a disk drive. I thought it was going to be a touch laptop. It’s cool I guess but incapable it seems. It just seems it’s missing too much.

iPhone!
Unless ALL of your other friends have Blackberries because then you can use BBM.
May 29, 2010 at 6:51 pm
I can’t waiitt to be able to afford mine! End of June seems to be in a decade.
I don’t get why people would want a camera on it. It wouldn’t be very handy, this huge thingy to take a photo.
I hope the case makes it easier to write on, because this would def be practical for uni…
@David Friday, the real strengh of a blackberry lies in its real keyboard, for touch-haters. Also in BBM. (note that aim can be used on iphones)
the strength of the iPhone? Well it’s an iPhone, and as with everything Apple, great user interface. there’s just nothing like it.
anyway, love your blog mister Davey Wavey!
kisses from France. x

lol? obviously the laptop…. more processing power, battery life, webcam, bigger… if u drop a laptop, there’s a chance it still works after… there’s the music downloads… u can save pictures… etc. an ipad is a big version of the ipod touch. there is no difference in features.

i actually read your blog from my ipad haha. great questions. WHY isnt there a camera? : (
May 29, 2010 at 7:19 pm
I am purchasing an iPad this summer!
BTW, I found it extremely easy to type on! =]
I don’t get why people want a camera, that would be incredibly awkward to use…

ill wait a while until the subsequent generations come out, kinda like with iphone 3gs, so that i dont have to keep upgrading
May 29, 2010 at 8:36 pm
I’m getting a WI-FI+3G one soon but i can’t fully decide on getting the 16,32,or 64GB one…but anyways for me this is perfect…the whole not having a disc drive thing is fine b’c really who actually listens to a cd nowadays…though i have to totally agree with you about the camera part b’c i’m sure its going to be awful trying to upload pictures onto it…i’ll probably just end up using my iphone and facebook then and get them off there…so truthfully yeah the ipad isn’t exactly perfect but its what new so there isn’t really a choose of not getting it…but its completely sold out in every store around me so i’m screwed for now…

Yep
That’s where I’m reading your blog.
Typping gets easier, although as you can see, still a bitch.

I love my ipod touch… and would love the big version… waiting for technology never works… there will always be new stuff, if you want to use it… you have to get it.

Get an Apple iPad case. It holds your iPad at an angle that makes it easy to type on. I touch type at around the speed I do on my MacBook Pro.

Two words: Air Video… Stream any format video from Mac or pc to ur iPad!! Makes the iPad *magical*
May 30, 2010 at 12:14 pm
Any Bluetooth keyboard should link up with the iPad, so you can blog away with a regular keyboard. Apple has a docking accessory/stand that allows you to connect a keyboard to the iPad.

The iPad was released in the UK on Friday and immediatley fell in love with it! I haven’t put it down since I bought it, iPad for home iPhone for put and about
May 30, 2010 at 6:09 pm
davey, i caved too, don’t worry. i didn’t think i was gonna get one, but when it became available in canada on friday, i went to the mall on my lunch hour, and, well, ended up buying a 32gb 3g model.
so far, i totally love it, but you’re right, it’s ideal for consuming, not creating.
now with my iphone, ipod(s), macbook, and ipad, i’m a total whore to apple’s marketing tactics.
May 31, 2010 at 9:27 pm
does it have a tablet feature? so im not the only one who thinks it needs a camera??!? thank god!!! i really wish i could get one. . .maybe for graduation =]

I too couldn’t resist a bite of the shiny new apple. I went to the local retailer on release day just for a look. Ha! Who was I kidding? Once I got my hands on it I was totally seduced. I have hardly turned my laptop on since I got this baby home. Just love the multi-touch interface and the way it handles pics and video. Surfing the net is so fast and convenient. I have even taken up reading books again thanks to ebooks. iPad has definitely changed my life. It is far from perfect or complete, but it is so damn sexy!
