London is actually really close ( in the scheme of world travel ) and you will likely have the opportunity to go there sometime in the future.
Australia, on the other hand, is far more exotic. Plus, if you go over Christmas, you’ll land in the middle of their summer. Christmas in London, while very prettily lit up, is dreadfully wet and cold.
Plus, if you’ve always wanted to go to Australia, and you go to England now, but never get around to Australia, you’ll be so sad. =(

Sydney is the heavy make-up, bright clothing, in your face big sister to get you into the place. But Melbourne is the subtle, friendly, full of surprises little sister, you’ll fall for.

Australia, because I, too, have always wanted to go there and before I die, I will. It would be great for you. It would be summer there so you could go shirtless (like you enjoy). If you chose Down Under, you will have to give at least one video of the bronzed beach boys you mentioned.
London is terrific, and I have many friends that go there for the Christmas holidays. Save that trip. Go to Australia. You won’t have to pack as much and what you pack will be light!
