So I was watching clips from Bush’s address to the nation marking the fifth anniversary of September 11th. He did a great job drumming up fear and making people uneasy. He spoke a lot about the war on terror, and how winning in Iraq is essential to that war.
I think Bush has it wrong. There is another strategy. Here is my presidential address to the nation:
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining me tonight marking the fifth anniversary of the terrible attacks on our nation. I have some great news for you all. Tonight, in this very moment, we can win the war on terror. That’s right, the war will be over. It’s easy.
We must live life without fear, without being nervous, and without worrying. We can not change our daily patterns out of fear. We can not give away our personal power. When you do not take a plane because you are afraid, you have given away your personal power. You can make a decision not to be afraid, and not to worry.
Another act of terrorism may occur. If it does, get on with life. Terrorism is only effective if people react. And when we react, that is when things change. That is when the economy crashes, when the geopolitical landscape shifts, when ideologies change, etc.
So America, you have won the war. You will not give away your personal freedom to terrorist. You will not let them control your life. You will be logical, and understand the real threat. The real threat is fear. Because, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
