When you get caught up in your own self importance or suffering, Deepak Chopra recommends this saying from the Ojibway people:
“Now and then I go about pitying myself and all the while my soul is being blown by great winds across the sky.”
It’s said that if you don’t want to suffer, realize that you aren’t able to suffer. That is, the real you – your spirit – can not suffer. And, suffering here comes from clinging on to things and resisting change. Nothing should be clung to and nothing should be considered “mine.” Your money, your friends and family… it’s not “yours.” Don’t cling to it, and when it goes… and it all will, just observe and experience the process. When your parents die, surrender to it. When your money is spent, stolen or gone, you won’t mind. That’s way it works.
