Could you spare some change, please?

To live is to grow.

It’s interesting when you look around at other people.  Some people make the decision to do what is safe and what is known.  Other people take risks and try new things.  Which people evolve more?

Change is needed for growth.  It’s really that simple.

In January, when I started my job search, I initially decided that I was going to search for a job in Rhode Island.  Why?  Because I grew up in Rhode Island and knew the area.  I knew the people, the organizations, the restaurants — everything.  Living in Rhode Island was the safe thing to do.  Through whatever insight, it suddenly became apparent to me that I was shutting out a whole world of possibilities.  Because I had tunnel vision, I was not aware of the many opportunities arising around me.

When you close out possibilities, you close out the universe.  In a way, you close out the cosmic forces at work, and create your own solution.  Unfortunately, forcing your own solution on a problem usually creates more problems.  If I had forced myself into a job in Rhode Island, it would not have been in equal rights.  It would have been in the corporate world — and I would have been working long hours doing something that didn’t interest me.  Instead, I went with the flow.  I opened myself up and became aware of what I really wanted.  I job searched across the country — I opened up all the possibilities.  It’s interesting how things worked out.  I was a bit disappointed when I didn’t get the job at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force in NYC — but little did I know that the universe had something better in store for me.  It’s funny how sometimes the things that we think we want are just a shadow of what the universe actually has in store for us.  The job that I have today is an unbelievably specific match of the things that I wanted to do.  The many seemingly unrelated and unlikely events that led up to me being offered the position are evidence of the manifestation of my dreams.

So really, to grow you must be open to change.  Evolution is beautiful — and seamless — when you open yourself up to the universe.  When the season is right, your dreams will blossom in such a way that it will exceed even your most beautiful fantasies.

  1. i think people who take risks and try something new evolve more. i mean i am in medical field, in our case, we practice evidence base so we have to follow what is safe and what is known, so i am kind of opposing how a doctor should practice medicine. but a good example is doctor house, a popular TV show, i knoe it’s a fictional TV show but he’s a very good doctor in a sense that he’s not afraid of trying something new to diagnose and treat his patients, he thinks outside the box, he thinks of other possibilities, the signs and symptoms could be something different from what is known. he breaks rules and the like but he is constantly evolving with each weird cases he solves that other doctors cannot.

    • Just promise me you wont go crazy like House and accidentally kill someone!!

But yeah, i am turning a new leaf and i want to try a whole lot of new things… when i graduate I am traveling the world and i might even join the peace core.. I want to DO something with my life.. have fun and be interesting

  2. I love Dr. House and i always watch this TV series after my day job.;”"
