The idea of “living your life for yourself” comes across as selfish. We’ve been taught that it is right and noble to live your life for other people. I think that the only true way to help others and to better the world is by living for yourself. Thus, I’m going to introduce the idea of “living your life for others by living your life for yourself.
You see, when you do what makes you happy – what feels right – you are in dharma. You are fulfilling your purpose. And when you fulfill your purpose, you are bettering the world. When you are in dharma, your unique combination of talents and skills are complimenting an unfulfilled need in the world. When you are in dharma, you are able to give back. By being successful, you are able to help other people. It’s really al very simple. And beautiful.
In the end you need to do what you want to do. And in the end, you and everyone else in the world (especially the people closest to you) will be better of because of it. Do what you do.
