In a book I just finished there was an appendix with a summary of hermetic wisdom. Hermetic wisdom was compiled by visionary Greek, Roman, and Egyptian seers. Basically, hermetic philosophy can be summarized in eleven insights as follows:
1. Everything is a manifestation of spirit; nothing exists outside of spirit.
2. As spirit is manifested, the whole is contained in every part–that is, in any one thing that you can imagine or hold, the potential for all possibilities exists within it. In other words, “What is here is everywhere, and what is not here is nowhere.”
3. Consciousness consists of vibrations in different frequencies–everything is vibration. Everything around you is a reflection of the state of consciousness you are in; the world is a mirror.
4. Change is the only constant. The only way to acquire anything is to let go of it and not hold on.
5. Everything contains its opposite.
6. Everything has a rhythm. If you are in tune with the universe and with the present moment, you will live in harmony.
7. Every event has infinite causes and infinite effects.
8. Creative energy is reflected as sexual energy/primal energy. Inspiration, enthusiasm, passion, and excitement give energy to our intentions and accelerate the spontaneous fulfillment of our desires.
9. We can direct our energy. What we focus our energy on grows in our lives.
10. True harmony occurs only when there is a balance of masculine and feminine forces in your own being.
11. The inner nature of every being–no matter how evil they may seem–is love. And, we have the ability to reveal anyone’s love through our own love.
Really, these are the eleven insights of man–as they occur through-out history for all of humanity. They are simple, transformative, and beautiful.

Beautiful insights, my favorite is number 11. After I feel hurt or rejected or victimized I used to recoil and go off and be by myself for long periods of times and I wouldn’t let myself trust anyone.
Trusting people is still a huge issue for me, but when I let my heart choose, I really do trust everyone, and I really do love the world. I still see the world as a child would see it. Some children are very trusting and they believe in that innate love, I still believe in it. It’s unfortunate that some people think what I believe is naive. I used to think that I was being naive, but now I’m getting better at letting myself just be and I don’t give my mind so much control anymore.

“7. Every event has infinite causes and infinite effects.”
I can understand the infinite causes part but i dont get the infinite effects part.
Does it mean that it effects the world in many different aspects as a result of one happening
(for example, giving food to a homeless person can 1) give him an easier happier day 2) make you feel better about yourself 3) blah blah blah)
Or does it mean that there are many different possibilities for different effects..
(example, said homeless person could be happy OR grateful, OR feeling pitied)
I don’t think i would agree with the second notion because I think there is only one path the universe will ever take and as a result i believe in destiny.
Please dispute with me.. i am in search of enlightenment here ☺
